What is meditation? How to meditate? Why meditate? How can meditation be helpful to us in our daily life? Find the answers to these questions through the 10-session Meditation for Beginners program. Reading about meditation is like reading about swimming; only by getting into the water does the aspiring swimmer begin to progress. Students will have the opportunity to practice sitting, walking and eating meditation. Attendance for all 10 sessions is strongly encouraged as a basis for one to begin his/her practice.
Ven. Shi Chun Nian is from BaoGuangFo Tang, a Buddhist Nunnery near Thomson. She was ordained as a Buddhist nun in 1999. Venerable studied in Myanmar for more than 3 years. During this period, she had the opportunity to learn from different meditation teachers and was exposed to different meditation techniques. Through her exposure and practices, Venerable began sharing her knowledge and experience about meditation since 2006. This short course provides an overview on the Stages of the Path. The presentation of the Lamrim enables a practitioner to actualize the whole Path to Enlightenment, in an orderly manner, starting from the 1st step. This course is most suitable for beginners and those who already have some basic foundation on the teachings of the Buddha.
Venerable Tenzin Palzang, a Singaporean, received his gelong (bhikshu) ordination from His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 2004. He graduated from the University of London majoring in electronics engineering, and has experience in corporate training and business coaching. He has been learning and practising Buddhism since 1991, and now helps people find some peace and happiness in their busy daily lives through Dharma and meditation practice. / Please call

Material wealth is in everyone's mind now, we will still be surfing the unpredictable waves of global economic changes for some time to come. Do hardship and competition extenuate unscrupulous means for wealth creation? Are wealth creation and greed not compatible with the Buddha's teaching? How are Buddhists advised to protect and enjoy their hard-earned wealth? These and other questions will be explored and discussed in this dynamic course aimed at understanding the Buddhist stance on wealth and greed, and find strength from the Buddha's teachings in these challenging times.
Venerable Bodhi or Venerable Shi Chun Yi obtained her basic degree in NUS in 1994 and after 7 years of studies in Sri Lanka, she obtained her PhD degree in 2003 and returned to Singapore. Despite our busy schedule, how can we learn to be spiritual and cope with the stress and undulations in our lives? This wonderful talk is aptly targeted at finding solace in a world of impermance.
Venerable Mahinda, a Malaysian, was born in Malacca in 1949. He was ordained a Theravâda Buddhist monk in 1976 under the tutelage of the late Venerable Dr K Sri DhammanandaNayakaMahâThera. He undertook basic Buddhist studies and training in Sri Lanka and practical Buddhist meditation under several masters in Sri Lanka , India , Burma and Thailand . Venerable Chang Qing was ordained as a Buddhist monk in 1989. He obtained his PhD in Buddhist Studies from University of Bristol, UK, in 1998. Currently, Venerable holds the title of Dean / Assistant Professor in the Buddhist College of Singapore. / All are welcome.
