Poetry Anthology Project

Project Requirements:

  1. Organize your poems around a broad theme in which you are interested.

Examples include: Childhood, teenagers, family, patriotism, inspiration, seasons, weather, flowers, love, sadness, friendship, etc.

  1. An aesthetically pleasing cover page, which includes your anthology’s title and your name.
  1. An introduction to your anthology in which you describe your poetic odyssey. Write this introduction after you have completed your anthology. Your introduction should be approximately one page.

Should include:

  1. Why you picked your theme.
  2. Thoughts and reflections on your theme
  3. What you have learned by collecting, analyzing, and arranging your poems.
  4. What you have liked/disliked about the project
  5. What would you do differently? Change?
  1. Table of contents page which includes titles, authors, page numbers,

and where your examples of literary terms can be located. I.E. a metaphor can be found on page 3, simile pg. 5, etc.

  1. Approximately 12 poems will be included in your anthology:
  2. 6 ish will be original (your work) and must cover each type of poem discussed.
  3. Six poems must be published poems that you have found and enjoy.
  4. Poems used in class may not be used in the anthology
  5. Please do not use the same poet for all poems

  1. The six published poems must be analyzed according to:
  • Subject matter/theme
  • Structure (rhythm, rhyme, repetition, form, etc.)
  • Figurative language/poetic devices (simile, metaphor, personification)
  • Your thoughts/conclusions about the poem
  • Like it? Dislike it? Why? Why not?
  • Each should be around a half a page
  • Your analyses should follow the TEA format. So, you will need to include lines from the poem to serve as your “E.”
  1. Each poem in the anthology should be accompanied by a picture which relates to the poem and enhances its presentation. Pictures may be original illustrations, magazine cut-outs, photos, computer graphics, etc. Be creative!
  1. A Works Cited page at the end, which lists the sources of your poems. Use Noodle Tools for formatting!
  1. You will be responsible for presenting one poem in front of the class. This could be either one of the poems you wrote or one that you found. Requirements:

- You must read it aloud

- Give us a brief summary of the poem

- Explain the poetic terms you applied to the poem

- Give us an interpretation of the poem (theme/moral)

- What lesson did you learn?

Keep in Mind:

- You may only include one song as a found poem

- Anthology must be bound in an attractive manner (Be Creative!)
