CLUB PRESIDENT DISTRICT GOVERNOR RI PRESIDENT

Scott Stacey Maurie Stack K R Ravindran

VOLUME 4 – Issue 5 – 3 August, 2015.

TODAY:

President Scottwas in charge today and got underway at12.35pm. A relatively small turnout today due mainly to the huge involvement by members at the Coffs Coast Cycle Challenge held last Sunday. More on that later.

Thanks Giving was presented by Peter Wardman and the Toast was proposed by Bernard Dowling.

Our Guest today was Bill Robins.

Reports:

I was a late starter today as I was helping with the delivery of tents etc from

The Cycle Challenge so I missed some of the reports.

Secretary, Bill Langlerwasan apology.

Treasurer John Walker presented the club’s profit and loss, balance sheet and

reconciliation reports to members. If you did not get a report and would like to

look through it ask John for a copy.

John also called on those members who have not yet paid their annual dues

to please do so this week.

Brian Leiper thanked all of the members who put in a huge effort over the

weekend with the Coffs Coast Cycle Challenge. A big thank you also to those

partners who also assisted. A special mention should go to Phil and Sandra

Price and Steve and Judy Smith who put in a tremendous amount of time and

effort. Both the Hill Climb and the Challenge were a great success.

Full details will be available, perhaps next week, when Judy Smithcollates all

of the information.

The numbers were:

Hill Climb – 31 – down on last year. Not sure why at this stage.

100klm – 298

60klm – 225

40klm – 71

Family – 166

A total of 791

Unfortunately there were a few accidents, caused by the riders. One fellow crashed just south of Butterfly Hill. He suffered a broken collar bone, rib and punctured his lung. Another fellow crashed at Archville Station round-about and broke his wrist. Both of these fellows were treated at the scene by St John’s Ambulance and NSW Ambulance people and taken to hospital. A fellow was treated at the finish for a suspected heart attack, however, it turned out to be exhaustion. All in all with close to 800 people riding plus 120 volunteers it could have been a lot worse.

Peter Jacksonis now out of hospital however he is undergoing further tests. Please give Peter a call to see how he is.

Peter Lindsay has the annual RAWCS (Rotary Australia World Community Service) stickers available and has requested that all members purchase a sticker for $10.00 to help this worthy cause.

Our successful NYSF applicant, Remy Bordignon, will be attending ournext meeting to let us know about the selection process he attended in Walcha and what his hopes are in attending the Forum in Canberra.

Don’t forget to consider being an organ donor. The process is very easy. Here is the website address so you and log on:

As Bob advised this is theDG partner’s project this year.

President Scottcalled onIan McAllisterto introduce our guest speaker, Bill Robins.

Bill is a Trade Mark Consultant. He advised that there is not a university course in this line of the law. You have to learn the ‘trade’ by specializing in this field and again experience as you go along. Trade marks can be registered or unregistered. Some trade marks can’t be registered such as common surnames. Some names are prohibited such as ‘Olympic’ and ‘Anzac’. A trade mark distinguishes your goods or services with your business. If you decide to take a trade mark it is advisable to complete a search in the Trade Mark Registry to make sure the name has not been taken by anyone else. Bill gave some examples your large corporations who failed to do this and subsequently had to pay the original owner of the mark to be able to use their mark.

Bill related some interesting stories from his files on his experiences in the profession.

A very interesting talk and when he offered to answer questions who other than our local expert was quick to gain some knowledge and arrange for a further contact, our very own Fiona Thwaites.

President Scott called on Phil Webb to proposed a vote of thanks to Bill which was acknowledged by the members present in the normal way.

Don’t forget this requirement – Working With Children.

All information and the application regarding theNew Working with Children Checkcan be found on our District Youth Web site at:

This only takes a few minutes and it is not hard. The questions they askare about yousoyou should know the answers.

NEXT MEETING –7 August, at the C.ex.

SERGEANTS SESSION

Ian McAllister again did anexemplarily job on increasing our bank balance. Not sure what his budget target is for the year, however, he appears to be well on the way.

Well done Ian and baton holder, Phil Webb.
