PLYWOOD WEB JOISTS

PART 1 – GENERAL

1.1PROVISIONS GOVERNING WORK UNDER THIS SECTION

1.2SUBMITTALS

A.SUBMIT Shop Drawings per Section 01300.

1.SUBMIT product data.

2.INDICATE sizes and spacing of joists, loads cambers, bridging, bracing and framed openings. Include manufacturer’s installation instructions.

3.Verify loading with structural drawings.

1.3QUALITY ASSURANCE

1.MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION: Conform to IBC code.

2.MANUFACTURER: Joists shall be manufactured by a company specializing in the manufacture of plywood web joists.

3.This work includes the complete furnishing and installation of all engineered lumber products as shown on the drawings, herein specified and necessary to complete the work.

4.Fabrication: All products shall be manufactured in a plant approved for fabrication by the building code and under supervision of a third party inspection agency.

5.Identification: Each member shall be identified by a stamp indicating the product type, grade, NER report number, manufacturer’s name, plant number, and independent agency’s logo.

A.Rough Framing: Section 06100.

1.5DELIVERY AND STORAGE

A.TRANSPORT JOISTS in a vertical position resting on bearing ends.

B.PROTECT JOISTS from moisture, warpage and distortion during transport and storage. Replace damaged joists.

1.6WARRANTY

A.All products shall be free from manufacturing errors or defects in workmanship and material. The products shall perform to the manufacturer’s specifications for the normal and expected life of the building.

PART 2 – PRODUCTS

2.1JOISTS

A.PLYWOOD WEB JOIST: Joists shall be shop fabricated.

1.MANUFACTURERS/TYPE: Truss Joist MacMillan, TJI Series, Williamette Engineered Wood Products, WSI Series, or other approved manufacturer with equal product listed for U.L. assemblies as shown. Conform to standards set forth in the National Evaluation Services, Inc., Report No. NER-200.

B.CHORD MEMBERS: Single stress graded lumber graded under grading rules of an approved Agency, or laminated lumber. Design stress values shall be as assigned by appropriate Building Code or authority for stress grade being used. Members shall be kiln-dried to an average moisture content of 15 percent but not more than 19 percent. Glued scarf joints shall be fingered, glued joints conforming to details approved by appropriate Building Code or Authority and if joint exceeds stress limit of members.

C.WEB MEMBERS: APA graded, structural 1 C-D, exterior, with face veneers grain running in a vertical direction of joist, butt joined to form a continuous member.

1.WEB: Pressure formed and fit into a groove in a center of the flange to form a pressure glued joint.

D.GLUE: Waterpoof type.

E.SIZE AND SERIES OF JOISTS: Provide as required to meet loads and dimensions as shown on Drawings. Provide ceiling extensions for joists in areas to have finished ceilings.

F.BRIDGING, BLOCKING AND BRACING: In accordance with Section 06100.

G.FASTENERS: Galvanized, to suit application.

H.Holes, cuts, or notches, are not permitted unless previously by Joist Manufacturer.

PART 3 – EXECUTION

3.1ERECTION

A.GENERAL: Place joists true to line and level. Install in accordance with manufactruer’s written instructions.

B.CONSTRUCTION LOADS: Keep off joists until they are permanently anchored and bridged. Avoid excessive concentrated loads during construction by distributing loads to insure that load carrying capacity of joists is not exceeded.

1.PROVIDE temporary bracing to position joists until permanently secured.

2.INSTALL permanent bridging, blocking and bracing.

C.OPENINGS: Frame with lumber in accordance with Section 06100.

D.HOLES: Field cut holes shall be neatly cut using templates, routers or saws and only of sizes and locations in accordance with manufacturer’s hole chart. Do not cut, notch, or drill holes into top or bottom flanges.
