Life Drawing Studio participants may work in any medium (odorless solvents please). Studio has easels and drawing boards. You may wish to include some form of easy clean up in your supplies – paper towels, cloth swipe, baby wipes etc. to clean your personal work area.

Watercolor paints:Cobalt blue, Cerulean blue, Burnt umber, Burnt sienna, Cadmium yellow or similar Alizarin red, Rose madder, Phtalo or Hooker’s green, Zinc white

Pike style covered palette

Brushes: #4, 6 & 8 round tip…Kolinsky sable is best

Watercolor paper block, 10 x 14”, 140 pound hot or cold press….I use both.

Pencils and erasers

Drawing paper

Foam core or plexiglass sheet, about 14 x 18” to tape down your watercolor paper.

Small container for water.

If you do not already have a book shelf full of ‘how to paint’ books, you might want to consider ‘The Watercolor Book’ by David Dewey. It’s as good as any and better than most. It is out of print….but used copies are always available for $20-30 at Amazon.com.

Abstracting From Nature: Tools and Techniques

All Levels (not suggested for beginning painter) – 2015/5-P2

Recommended paint colors:

Titanium White, Mars Black, Cadmium Yellow Med, Cadmium Yellow Lt (Lemon Yellow), Cerulean Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Red Med, AlizarinCrimson, Burnt Umber, Burnt Siena.

Variety synthetic white nylon bristle brushes - 1/2, 3/4, and 1" flats and filberts work best.

Sponges, palette knives, rags are good for layering paint

Odorless turpenoid and walnut or linseed oil for oil painters.

Disposable palette pad (white plastic trays won't work with acrylic)

Variety of surfaces may include: canvas panels, prepared boards or stretched canvas:

8 x10, 9 x 12, 11 x 14” and 8 x 8" square are good.

Oil Paints (Avoid Purchasing Hues) Cerulean Blue, French Ultramarine Blue, Viridian Green, Cadmium Lemon Yellow (Windsor Yellow), Cadmium Yellow (or Hansa Yellow), Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red (or Windsor Red), Quinacridone Magenta, Ivory Black, Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre, Titanium White (large tube)

16x20 Canvas Pad *Buying Pre Stretched Canvases or Oil Primed Painting Panels can be a time saver 1/2 thick foam core 20x30, Bulldog clips or large binder clips

Razor knife/box cutter, Linseed Oil, *Cold Wax Medium Gamblin’s Brand (We’ll explain why) Wooden Palette or Paper Palette (I recommend Masterson Resealable palette)

Gamsol or Baby Oil/Mineral Oil (No Odorless Turpentine from the Hardware store or Other Solvents)

Misc Materials: 2 Jars (I would recommend a museum pot and a Silicoil Jar, a salsa jar works in a pinch)

Dishsoap (Small container), Paper Towels, bungee cord
