CONDITIONS

The elevation of an Affiliate to Life Affiliation of The Returned & Services League of Australia SA Branch (RSL-SA) is an honour that may only be approved by the RSL-SA State Board on the recommendation of a Sub-Branch.

The provisions governing the Life Affiliate Award can be found in RSL-SA By-Law No. 3, Clause 20.

Great care must be displayed when considering the nomination of an Affiliate for the honour of Life Affiliation of the League and any nomination must qualify the nominated member beyond all doubt as to their outstanding service to the League.

By-Law No. 3, Clause 20 states that for an Affiliate to be elected to Life Affiliation of the League, that member must have displayed long, continuous and outstanding service to the League.

By-Law No. 3, Clause 20 further defines that before consideration is given to nominating an Affiliate for election to Life Affiliation of the League, the Affiliate must have at least 15 years continuous membership of the League and given at least 10 years outstanding service to the League.

An Affiliate nominated for Life Affiliation of the League must NOT be made aware that such nomination has been made until State Board approval is received and advised by the State Branch to the nominating Sub-Branch. A special Life Affiliation badge and card, together with the State Certificate, are made available by the State Branch for presentation.

Only one award can be made to a Sub-Branch in any one financial year.

There is no up-front fee payable for Life Affiliation. The Affiliate’s Sub-Branch becomes responsible for the payment of his/her annual subscription and may continue to meet this cost even if the Affiliate transfers his/her affiliation to another Sub-Branch or cancel the Life Affiliation of the Affiliate.

The honour of Life Affiliation is an important acknowledgement of an Affiliate’s outstanding service to the League, the integrity of which must never be compromised.

CITATION GUIDE
  • Please use block letters throughout.
  • Offices held in any Sub-Branch should be listed, including dates, and the Sub-Branch identified.
  • The Citation must clearly indicate that the Affiliate being nominated for Life Affiliation of the League has displayed long, continuous and outstanding service, to The Returned & Services League of Australia.
  • Outstanding Service to the League must be service beyond the normal expectations of an Affiliate, especially in an honorary capacity. (The fact that the Affiliate has been an office bearer or a member of the Sub-Branch Committee for a number of years on its own does not necessarily qualify an Affiliate for Life Affiliation).
  • It is particularly important that the efforts and dedication of the Affiliate’s outstanding service to the betterment of veteran members, their families, dependants and community, are highlighted when writing the Citation.
  • If there is insufficient space to include all information, please attach additional sheets.
  • The decision to approve a nomination for Life Affiliation of The Returned & Services League of Australia will be made by the State Board of the RSL-SA and will be final.
