Science / Students have begun experimenting with creating mixtures, and solutions. We discussed methods of separating mixtures and solutions.
Math / We are also continuing our Think Through Math online program. Kerby is currently 2nd place in the entire Eastern Time Zone! Keep up the great work, Kerby kids! The 5th graders are working hard to qualify for the TTM March Madness competition. Every student should be working on passing as many lessons as possible every day, at home and at school. All students have a unique username and password. They can access this program from any computer or device. Good luck with TTM!
Social Studies / This week we concluded our studies in chapter four on European explorers. When we return from break, the students will be given study materials for a test on Friday, February 27th.

You can find the links to these Padlets on the 5th grade teachers’ websites. We continue to focus on literary essays.

Teacher Comments:

Thank you to our wonderful party planners for putting on a fantastic Valentine’s Day party ofor our fifth graders. We so appreciate the time and effort you put into this party, and the kids had a fantastic and memorable time!

Please read the following from Mrs. Delgado:

Cold weather: If the temperature, with wind chill is 0 or above, the children will be going outside for recess. Please make sure they come prepared with hat, gloves, snow pants, winter coat and boots every day.

Cold weather drop-off and pick-up: When the temperature, with wind chill, is below 0, students will be allowed to enter the building and wait inside on the carpets by the entryways. If the carpets become too crowded, they will be asked to stand in front of their lockers. They should not enter their classrooms until the bell rings. Parents, on cold weather admittance days, please drop your children off at the door. Please do not enter the building with your children. It contributes to overcrowding in the hallways, which is a safety concern. Thank you for your cooperation.

  • If your child has a morning service/safety job and is being dropped off by a parent, please drop them off in the Kerby cutout in front of the building rather than at the 4 way stop at Beaupre/Kerby. This is to ensure the safety of all Kerby students. Thank you!
  • Once again, the 5th grade will be emphasizing the Kerby Keys to Success and introducing the FISH philosophy. We will have more information to come in the next few weeks. As the new leaders of the school, your child will be asked to learn and use BE THERE, MAKE THEIR DAY, CHOOSE YOUR ATTITUDE, AND PLAY Parent letters will be sent home as it is being introduced in the classroom. Any discussions about these at home will only help to strengthen the effectiveness of the program.
  • Remember to work, work hard, work hard in all you do!
