GRADING SYSTEM:

50% = Test grades

20% = Lab work

15% = Quizzes

15% = Daily work

INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK: Organization = better study habits.

  • Each student is expected to keep an interactive notebook in this class. You will need a spiral notebook for this. We will spend a little bit of time at the beginning of the semester going over the guidelines and setting it up. There will be a sample notebook in class at all times.
  • Everything that we do in class during the semester will be kept in this notebook.
  • This notebook will be graded periodically as either a quiz or a test grade.
  • You may leave this notebook in class, taking it home as needed.

TESTS AND QUIZZES:

  • Students will be given the option of retaking a test in order to raise that test grade up to an 80. The only way a student’s grade will be raised if, at the time of the retake, they have no missing assignments and they have completed the test review. Test retakes must be taken within one week of the original test.
  • Quizzes will be given on a daily basis, ether as a warm up or an exit ticket. These quizzes may be 1-5 questions (multiple choice, short answer, true false, matching). Students either earn a 100 or 0. In order to raise a 0 up to a 70, students must either attend tutorials or complete an alternate assignment and show mastery of the material by taking a different quiz. All quiz retakes are due by the end of the current 6 weeks.

ABSENCES:

  • You are responsible for missed assignments. Refer to my website for calendar, notes, and assignments. Hard copies are also available in the “Missed Work” box in class. You have as many days as you were absent to complete make-up work. Missed exams must be made up within one week upon returning. Assignments that were due on the day of an absence are due the day you return. If you were absent the day before a test, you will take the test with the class upon returning.

CLASS RULES

ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR LEARNING

1.BRING MATERIALS TO CLASS. BE READY TO LEARN. Leave the drama at the door.

There may be a warm up (quiz grade) given the first 5 minutes of class, if you are tardy, you may not be able to answer the warm up and therefore receive a zero for that quiz. A tardy over 20 minutes is marked as an absence. Skipping will not be tolerated, a phone call home on first offense, referral for each after. Skipping a test will result in 50% grade reduction for that test.
