ALGEBRA BRIDGES:

MATERIALS NEEDED DAILY:

¨Textbook

¨Notebook or binder: to be used for notes and examples & in-class practice problems.

¨PENCILS ONLY

¨Graph composition book: (can be found at Walmart, Target, Office Depot)

¨Calculator: It is required that each student purchase his/her own calculator. TI 84 CE or TI 84 graphing calculator preferred, TI 83 is also acceptable.

GRADING POLICY:

¨Tests (50%): 3 or 4 a marking period

·  Be neat & organized. Crossed out answers will be marked incorrect. Please use an eraser.

¨Quizzes (25%): Typically covers 3-5 sections

¨Weekly Portal Quizzes:

·  Assigned every Friday and should be done on Friday. If you are having internet issues, see Mr. Merscher Monday morning during AM homeroom.

¨Homework & Classwork & Other (25%):

¨Homework Checks (5 points each): Done randomly

·  5 points will be awarded for assignments that are 100% complete.

·  Assignments are checked for written evidence of effort only, NOT for correctness.

·  You will receive an “m” (for missing) if it is not 100% complete.

¨Class Participation is part of your classwork grade:

·  EVERYDAY you enter class you should be READY TO LEARN.

·  You should be seated with all the proper materials out and open on your desk.

·  Your participation grade will be your first grade entered (40 points to start) for each marking period.

·  You are expected to be an active participant of class.

·  Any disruption and/or poor behavior will result in a loss of participation points.

¨All students and parents are required to have access to Community Portal to help keep track of current, missing, future assignments, and grades. We also use Community Portal for testing.

EXTRA HELP:

¨It is required that you check Mr. Merscher’s Website often for daily assignments, helpful math links, and important announcements/handouts.

¨I am often available before school (7:30am) and 8th period for extra help.

·  You must email Mr. Merscher to make a morning appointment.

RESPECT:

¨Always treat others the way you would want to be treated. Disruptions, and/or disrespect towards a teacher or fellow student will not be tolerated.

¨Any disregard for classroom policies may result in a detention and/or loss of class participation points.

¨Bring attention to yourself BUT in a positive manner.

RETAKES & MAKEUPS: (**No quiz or test retakes permitted IF a homework or classwork assignment is missing)

Marking Periods 1 & 2:

-Students are allowed to retake all quizzes and chapter tests up until the end of the MP for half credit as long as written corrections have been submitted with the original test/quiz.

-Students are allowed to redo all missing/incomplete homework (including Portal Quizzes) for full credit but they must be done on the appropriate form (see Mr. Merscher’s website).

Beginning Marking Period 3:

-Test retakes are no longer allowed.

-Retakes for quizzes and weekly Portal Quizzes ARE still accepted.

-All other policies are still in place.

Beginning Marking Period 4:

-Test and/or quiz Retakes are no longer allowed.

-Late/incomplete homework will now be accepted late for partial (60%) credit.

-Portal Quiz corrections and make ups can are no longer accepted.

PLACEMENT FOR 9th GRADE:

¨ All Algebra Bridges students are placed in Algebra.
