This grant is provided by Business Improvement Districts Scotland (funded by Transport Scotland, an agency of the Scottish Government) to enable Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) to promote European Mobility Week, to provide funding for BIDs to host a sustainable transport event during European Mobility Week and prepare a short report on the outputs of the events held.

Section C: / Your ProposalQ3. Please describe your project, activities and events that you propose to deliver to promote European Mobility Week, 16th to 22nd September.
Queensferry Ambition sees European Mobility Week as opportunity to:- Hold a Festival/event to raise awareness
- Challenge current perceptions and thinking by businesses, residents and visitors
- Experience different modes of transport
- Experiment with pedestrian/cycling areas
- Better understand how ‘mobility’ currently works
Traffic Free High Street(all initiatives – timings and areas - to be agreed with Queensferry District Community Council (QDCC))
- Encourage Pedestrian and Cyclist use only
- Set up a Buzzer Bus to collect would be shoppers from several pick up points in Queensferry and provide a drop off point at the Hawes Esplanade or at the start of the high street (cost and additional sponsorship dependent)
- Possibility of using horse and ‘carriage’ and rickshaws (chargeable)
- Engage with the local cyclist groups and walking groups as well as Dementia Friendly and make South Queensferry an enjoyable shopping / day out on the pedestrianised / cycle friendly High Street (restricted to agreed day(s) / times
- Street entertainment to provide a fun and friendly visitor environment
- Create picnic areas and encourage local businesses to participate in street food initiatives
- Public relations and promotion of project to engage businesses and people in a more sustainable transport strategy
- Invite Transport Scotland, Sustrans, Energy Saving Trust, Living Streets, Cycling Scotland, Paths for All, GreenFerry, Eco car dealers to display, Driving Instructors to provide info on driving efficiencies– active participation and inclusive activities from connected organisations and stakeholders
- Encourage and engage with businesses to display posters and relevant literature
- Possible fund raising activities such as cycling (fixed!) to make your own smoothie
- Public relations and promotion of project to engage with businesses and people about their quality of life and improvements and benefits that can be achieved through active and continuing involvement, post information on public transport
- Cycle hire based at Hawes Esplanade during European Mobility week
- Provision of maps of local cycling and walking routes
- Could you walk cycle or walk to work information on benefits of exercise and calories burned, money saved!
- Potential links with local tour companies to show people how interesting walking can be – mixture of historic, culture/heritage and wildlife
- Engage with local Cycle Shops to do bike ‘MOTs’ and provide advice
- Public relations and promotion of project to engage with businesses and people about environmental quality, improvements and benefits that can be achieved through not taking the car
- Parents encouraged to walk children to school rather than taking the car
- Local initiative to ‘get kids thinking’ about sustainable transport and create an idea based on cycling and or walking in the local area to create a better environment for all
- Using 20mile/hour mascot to raise awareness and encourage walking to school – based around safety elements and fitness benefits
- Lobby CEC and pursue funding opportunities for permanent bike stands, a place to secure cycles at strategic points along the high street (allowing cyclists to dismount and shop or eat and drink)
- Lobby City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) for improved pavements for pedestrians and parents with prams and disabled access
- Work to create a permanent, positive, walking and cycling mind-set and environment
- Engage withlocal stakeholders to get together and discuss the different aspects of mobility and air quality, find innovative solutions to reduce car-use and thus emissions, and test new technologies or planning measures

Discussions have been held with CEC officers and councillors. Support has been committed from Natalie Le Couteur who believes that the aims of Queensferry Ambition’s mobility week application is in-line with CEC aims and objectives.It is anticipated that Active Travel will support the application with both financial and expert assistance. However, this cannot be confirmed prior to this application being lodged as the contact person is currently on leave.
