The Transcript Evaluation Department provides transfer credit and content equivalency evaluations of coursework based on official transcripts from all institutions attended prior to enrollment at Western Governors University. University policy governs these evaluations, however students and applicants have the right to request a re-evaluation. If you question your transfer or content evaluation, first contact your Enrollment Counselor. Your Enrollment Counselor is very knowledgeable and can explain why you may not have received transfer credit in a particular area. Students or applicants mayrequest an appeal for specific credit if they believe the content of their previous courseworkmeets the WGU requirement according to the WGU transfer and content equivalency guidelines.

To initiate an appeal, students or applicants mustsubmit this completed form along with supporting documentation to the Transfer Evaluation Departmentwithin fifteen (15) business days of the official notification of transcript evaluation results. You will be notified in writing of the final outcome within ten(10) business days. In certain circumstances, appeals received beyond the fifteen (15) business day window will be considered. These exceptions are rare, however, and subject to additional academic review.

Please note the following WGU policies:

  • We require official transcripts from the issuing institution, and will not accept transfer credit awarded and listed by another institution.
  • We do not award transfer credit for transcripts received after the initial term start date.
  • No transfer credit will be accepted once a student begins studies at WGU.

Courses accepted by transfer must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be college level from an accredited institution (regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education).
  • Must have been awarded a grade of C- or better
  • Pre-licensure, Nursing Science, and Teachers programs must have a grade of C or better.
  • PB/MAT Teachers College programs for Texas students must present coursework graded C+ or better.
  • May not be used to fulfill more than one course of study.
  • Must meet the competency unit and content equivalency.
  • May not be used to fulfill upper division requirements, except in certain cases to meet the maximum number of transfer units available specific to the program.

Refer to the WGU Student Handbook ( for transfer and content equivalency guidelines.
