ADVANCED MEDIA MAKE-UPPRE-COMPETITION ACTIVITY

Project brief
This is a live competition. The competition is 4.15 hours long including a mandatory 15 minute comfort break; it includes full body make-up following compulsory criteria and costume.
Competitors will be judged on:
  • Set up/personal appearance
  • Application/technique/dramatic impact
  • Overall effect of make up/finished result
The theme for this pre-competition activity is Hallucinations.
Marking and assessment
Assessment will be by examination of the process and the finished product.
Marks will be awarded as follows

Competition rules
Conduct for competitors during live competitions:
Scrutineers will be in the competition area at all times to ensure there are no infringements of the rules. Competitors will lose marks if rules are not adhered to:
  1. Competitors must set up and participate in the competition without help. Accompanying tutors / colleagues etc. must not enter the competition area. Models will enter the competition area when advised by VTCT / WorldSkills UK personnel.
  2. Competitors must ensure that they keep to timings set by judges. Extra time will not be given if the time set is exceeded (if late or delayed). A competition scrutineer will advise competitors about timings.
  3. Competitors are required to bring all products this may mean water on some occasions, equipment and towels. The host centre will provide a working surface and chair and power point.
  4. Competitors must cover any logos etc. that would identify the organisation they are representing.
  5. During the competition competitors should not disturb other students/ teams or speak to members of the public.
  6. Competitors must ask permission, and be escorted, if leaving the competition area.
  7. If there are technical difficulties or health and safety is compromised the judges VTCT / WorldSkills UK personnel will advice competitors accordingly.
  8. Competitors who damage or break their own equipment will not be given any extra time.
  9. Models must be 16 years of age or over and must prove this if requested by VTCT / WorldSkills UK personnel
  10. Female models can be topless, but pre- applied nipple pads must be worn.
  11. Make up must cover any part of the face and body not clothed.
  12. All make up media can be used, as long as it is applied hygienically and safely i.e. airbrushing, water colour, cream make up etc. with the exception of air canisters.
  13. No work may be done / started before the competition. This includes: no preparation of hair, no fitting of bald caps, headdresses or hair pieces.
  14. At least 2 prosthetics pieces must be used, but cannot be fitted prior to the competition or be pre painted, prosthetics may be bought or made.
  15. Bald caps must be used, (hand made or purchased), but cannot be fitted prior to the competition. Bald caps must not be pre-adorned or painted.
  16. Headdresses (full or part) may be worn but must not be shop bought and should have been made by the competitor. Hair pieces (not full wigs) may be worn and should not exceed more than 25% (one quarter) of the head.
  17. Costumes must be designed and made by the competitor – not hired. Costume must not cover more than ¼ of the overall design
  18. Props can be used to enhance the theme during presentation, but must not hinder the model’s movement, ability to eat, drink or use the bathroom. Models may need to stay in costume for a minimum of 2 hours (e.g. models must be able to get on / off stage or presentation area easily and unaided).
  19. Attention will be given to presentation of artist, make up application, professionalism and tidiness throughout the competition.
  20. Mood boards with illustrations, photographs, etc must be displayed during the competition to explain your design.
