CAPS Program

The California Academy of Professional Students (CAPS) Program will host a group of talented college and graduate students from throughout California to get an insider's view of life in corporate America. In this initial re-design of the program, we will start with 8 students: 4 from the Cal State system and 4 from the UC system. CAPS students must be 21 years of age, and in 2009, 8 CAPS students will be chosen from the following regions: Northern (2), Central (2), Inland Empire (2), and Southern (2). Students will have an opportunity to meet with top corporate executives, elected officials and network with some of the most spirited business owners in the State. This scholarship is an ALL EXPENSE PAID offering while at the Convention.

John Aguilar Procurement Achievement Award - ~$2,500+ scholarship

As part of the 30th Annual Convention, the CHCC will award the John Aguilar Procurement Achievement Award to a Hispanic Business Owner in California. This award, offered by CHCC and funded by PepsiCo Global Procurement, will be presented to an outstanding Hispanic Business that has achieved success in the area of procurement and has made a positive impact on the image of Hispanic business in California. In order to be nominated, the business owner must be headquartered in California, must be a current member of the CHCC, and must provide a product or service used by major corporations or government agencies.

United Health Care/CHCC Scholarship – ~$25k in scholarship dollars to be awarded

Scholarship applications are now being accepted for Spanish-speaking Latino and Hispanic students pursuing health careers who demonstrate a commitment to working in underserved communities. The scholarships, offered by the CHCC and funded by the United Health Foundation, are part of the Latino Health Scholars program, which helps encourage Latino and Hispanic students to pursue careers in health care. According to the U.S. Health Workforce Profile, health care professionals comprise nearly 12 percent of the U.S. work force. However, the Sullivan Commission on Diversity in the Healthcare Workforce reports that although Latinos represent 16 percent of the total U.S. population, they comprise only 4 percent of physicians, 6 percent of nurses and 5 percent of dentists.
