Teams and Year Groups / All athletes are to be selected from the respective year groups. Each athlete may compete in a maximum of two track and two field events.
Each team should consist of a minimum of 9 girls and 9 boys with a maximum of 12 girl and 12 boy athletes being permitted.
Trophies / Medals / Medals for the 1st team and a team trophy.

Risk Assessment & First Aid / Each school will need to provide staff
member’s appropriate to the ratio of
students they are bringing to the event.
Schools will need toprovide their own travel riskassessments to and from the event.
Changing Rooms & Toilets / Are available at the Sports Hall. Please
make sure your students come changed
ready to run as space is very limited.

Indoor Athletics Competition - Risk Assessment:
HAZARD / CONTROLS MEASURES IN PLACE / RISK FACTOR / FURTHER CONTROL MEASURES
Slippery/wet floor from spilt drinks or food
Athletes /staff /
visitors slipping on wet floor resulting in injury / Drink bottles to be stored upright to avoid spills. No food to be consumed in the main hall.
Wipe up any accidental spills immediately / Medium / Staff to check regularly
Tripping over bags/belongings
Athletes/coaches falling and potentially injuring themselves or others / Restrict bags/belongings brought into sports hall, tominimum necessary and store essential belongings neatly to sides of the hall. / Medium / Staff to check regularly
Footwear / School staff to regularly check whether footwear is appropriate / Low / Schools staff attending are responsible for making sure their pupils wear footwear appropriate for the surface
Inappropriate footwear for conditions (danger of slipping/risk of injury)
Jewellery / All jewellery has to be removed or taped up before a match. Staff checks this. / Low / Each player to be responsible for removing their own jewellery School staff are to check
Conduct of competitors, officials, spectators / Respect Agenda. Staff can caution or withdraw competitors or officials in breach of these rules, and report any transgression by spectators. Physical injuries / Competitors should warm up and cool down properly before and after competition. / Medium / Basic insurance cover is provided through the BWAF schools.
There is access to an adequately stocked first aid kit, and a qualified first aider on site
competitors with injuries or medical complaints should let these be known to their manager.
Dehydration/Exhaustion / Drinks are provided by individual players / Medium / As a safety net, drinks can be made available via the School during games.
Lifting and Handling
Taking equipment to/from vehicles / Any person taking equipment to or from vehicles, should ensure that they only carry equipment that they are able to lift, hold and carry without causing an injury to themselves or others. / Medium
Nutrition / Children are encouraged to eat and drink appropriately. / Low
Use of changing facilities / The facility is checked by a BWAF Staff prior to its use for any game, ensuring that both changing rooms are free of any debris or articles that may constitute a risk. All debris is removed at the end of the games, and any chairs, tables, equipment, or other items are left in a manner whereby they would not constitute a risk to future users of the facility. / Medium / Issues relating to changing facilities are reported to the school. BWAF staff will determine if there is a health and safety problem, and can determine if they should not be used, though, it should be noted that the WC facilities are based in the facility, and every effort should be made to enable continued access to WC’s
