WHAT WE TEACH

Our school syllabus is designed to cover three main areas/subjects of learning:

RESOURCES AND FACILITIES

All the classes at DUSS have chairs, tables and whiteboards/smart boards. Children are provided with all the learning materials, including textbook, exercise book, homework dairy and bag. The school has its own library and holds a large number of titles suitable for children to borrow every week.

TERMS DATES AND HOLIDAY

The school year begins on the first Saturday of September and ends on the last Saturday of July. The school has provision for eight weeks of holiday in each academic year; two weeks at the end of Autumn and Spring; and four weeks at the end of Summer. The school terms are:

Autumn: September—December  Spring: January—April Summer: May—July

FEES & PAYMENTS

DUSS is a non-profit making organisation which runs with financial contribution from parents and guardians:

Admission Fee – £30 per child (non-refundable) – includes a bag, goodies, and learning materials

Tuition Fee – £110* per term * £100 when paid within the first 3 weeks of each term; £10 family discount (if 3 or more sibling)

HOMEWORK

At DUSS homework is integral to the syllabus. All parents are expected to spend at least 30 minutes every week talking to their children about the school, and the work which they are doing. Children have a diary so that parents know what homework has been set and are expected to give additional time with their children. Parents are requested to communicate with the teachers using the homework diary and sign the diary on a weekly basis.

ASSESSMENT

Teachers assess children through observation as well as setting structured tasks as and when appropriate. At the end of the year children have the final assessment which is used to decide whether individuals are ready to move to the next level or need to remain in the same class.

OTHER POLICIES

Parents are responsible for providing packed lunch/snack for their child[ren].

Parents are responsible for dropping and collecting their child[ren] from school.

The school does not have a strict uniform policy; however, pupils are expected to dress modestly.

Students must respect their teachers, staff and other pupils at all times. Any student displaying bad behaviour can be suspended or expelled from school.

Students will not be allowed to leave the school premises without Headteacher’s authorisation. The parent must inform the school in advance if a child has to leave early.

If any furniture or facilities are broken or damaged by a student, the parent will be held responsible and will be required to pay for any damage caused.

SCHOOL COMMITTEE

DUSS is managed by a School Committee (SC). The Headteacher manages the day-to-day running of the school on behalf of the School Committee. Any complaints or suggestions should be forwarded to the Headteacher or the School Committee.
