Fourth of July Success! Sponsored by the TWE Board of Directors

The July 4th Parade and Picnic was a blast! It was great to see so many families in red, white and blue, decorating their bikes, scooters, and wagons. Many thanks go to Andy and Renee Dierking for allowing the community to set up in front of their home.

Thanks go to Art and Kim Navarro for lending their “parade car”, and to Paris Mohager for donating the colorful balloons.

After the parade, we enjoyed the barbeque and games at Donna and Todd Stewart’s home. Thanks to the Stewarts for opening their home to the community and to the Paculas, Pelowskis, McDonnells and Dierkings for donating some of the food and drinks!

“An Inconvenient Truth” Shapes Our Future

(Article contributed by Brooke Feuling)

In the month of July, a movie opened at the Del Mar Highlands Theater called “An Inconvenient Truth.”It explains the effects of global warming, and how it will change our lives if we don’t take action NOW.

The good news is that we have options and we can make a difference.

Global Warming stats…

  • Hurricane Katrina was a category 5 when it hit New Orleans, a direct result of warmer ocean waters.
  • The 10 hottest years in history have happened in the last 15 years.
  • Global sea levels could rise by more than 20 feet with the loss of shelf ice in Greenland and Antarctica, devastating coastal areas worldwide.

If we don’t take immediate action, this could all happen within the next 50 years. We can all contribute to making changes. Here is what you can do:

  • Buy wind power! You have the option to pay $15 a month for wind power (in addition to your current SDG&E bill). The clean wind power is placed back on the energy grid for all to benefit. If you sign up at Whole Foods Market will send you a $50 gift card. Whole Foods is the first fortune 500 company to offset their power use 100% with wind power!
  • See the movie, “An Inconvenient Truth” and visit the website at tell friends!
  • Offset your family’s carbon emissions by becoming “carbon neutral.”Visit to offset emissions from your home, car, and even your air travel.
  • Recycle!
  • Buy Organic foods as much as possible! Organic soil holds much more CO2 then conventional farms. Jimbo’s carries a great selection of produce, and the farmers market in Solana Beach on Sunday at 2pm has lots of organic produce.

We can solve this problem, but it takes an effort to work towards the goal. Doing some things is better than doing nothing at all!
