Commitment to Success

“Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.” – John Wooden

Northridge Volleyball philosophy is to teach each player to be the very best they can be through many things like hard work and cooperation. We are committed to creating an environment that is challenging and mindful in every drill in every practice session. Players will be prepared for games and expected to execute what is practiced at a high level. Success is not based on wins and losses, it is based on did we all give our very best every moment we were together as a team. Don’t get me wrong, winning is really fun, but winning against a team and not giving our absolute best is not success. A high level of play is expected by players and coaches in every game and every practice. That is how we keep improving and being at our best = success!

Commitment to the program. Commitment to getting better every day. Commitment to each other and a common goal. We all want the same thing and will do our best to achieve it.

Volleyball Player Conduct

You are representing Northridge Volleyball as long as you are a part of our program. Expectations are as follows.

  • Attend all classes on time & no coming late to school after a game night
  • You are a student first, volleyball player second.
  • There is zero tolerance for bullying or hazing teammates or other students
  • Be at practice on time.
  • That means at least 15 minutes early to have volleyball gear on, set up nets and be ready to start on time.
  • Game days all players are to sit together behind the team bench or together in a section if no bench area is available.
  • Supporting our Freshmen, JV and Varsity teams is important and highly motivating for the team on the court.
  • Only members of the volleyball program sit directly behind the team.
  • Practice and Game Attendance is Mandatory in Season.
  • There are a few exceptions with 1 week advance notice of a college visit or a family event ex. wedding or letting the coach know that morning you are home sick from school or you are attending a sudden family event ex. funeral.
  • Missing practice with an unexcused absence the day before a game will result in the player sitting out the first set of the match.
  • Players must at least attend blocks 3 & 4 of that day of school to attend practice or a game.
  • Lettering
  • A player must play in 40% of all matches to letter at that level. Ex. 40% of Varsity matches to earn a Varsity letter
  • Adhere to the Northridge High Schools Athletic Code of Conduct.
  • You have read and signed this code agreeing to follow it. Policy and consequences for breaking the rules is found in the student handbook.
  • Attitude
  • Choose a selfless attitude that promotes the good of the team.

Transportation

  • Northridge High School requires athletes to pay a fee every year for transportation. The fee is $40.00 per athlete.
  • We take a school bus to every match.
  • Players are required to ride the bus to and from every match.
  • Exception to this would be if on a Saturday tournament a player must ride home with a family member. Reasons are if they have a family event to attend. A transportation form must be filled out by the parent(s) and coach 1 week in advance. A new form must be filled out and submitted each time.
  • Please pick your player up on time after practice and matches.
  • Players will be able to call parents when we are approaching the school from an away match.
  • Coaches are not able to leave the school until all players are picked up.

Team Functions Out of Season

  • Need to be delivered to the high school athletic office no later than 2:00PM or have your player bring them with them to school if no refrigeration required. Spirit bags should contain snacks (no peanut products and no candy) and a drink. Varsity players could have lunch at noon, game over at 9:00ish, that’s a long time with no food/fuel. If you want to add something fun or inspirational that’s appreciated too.
  • Food Coordinator for Tournaments
  • For tournaments we typically have a lunch break. The coordinator will assemble parents to bring in items for a sit down lunch.
  • After School Snacks
  • For all home games the players stay after school for study tables. We meet in a classroom and do homework (that is the purpose). One parent from each team (Frosh, JV, V) will work together and bring in snacks and drinks. It is kind of buffet style, no individualized packing necessary.
