PLAYING THROUGH WITH SENIOR GOLF CAPTAIN JOSH LEVINE
Danny Katzman, Managing Editor
Danny Katzman: I guess the main thing people want to know is how does it feel to follow in the footsteps of Aaron Katzman as captain of the Brandeis Golf Team?
Josh Levine: I have to be honest, it’s a very tough job because he was a great leader. The team did quite well during his tenure, but not as well as they did under me.
DK: Cheap shot at the Katzman Family.
DK: How do you answer the question that many Brandeis students ask: “We have a golf team?”
JL: Yes, with clubs and balls as well. We even get meal money, sometimes, but not as much as we used to.
DK: What is the best thing about playing on the Brandeis Golf Team?
JL: Isn’t it obvious? The girls.
DK: When are tryouts?
DK: What was your best moment on a golf course?
JL: It’s a tie. We were playing in the Bowdoin Invitational sophomore year (2003) and I chipped in twice on the first day for eagle. It was the first time that I’ve ever had two eagles in one round. The other is when I made 2nd Team All-UAA as a freshman. It was quite an honor for a freshman.
DK: What has been your worst moment on a golf course?
JL: It was the end of sophomore year and I made triple bogey on the 18th hole of a tournament, where par would have won the tournament. It was in true Jean Van De Velde form.
DK: If you could play a round of golf with anyone in the world, who would it be?
JL: Annika Sorrenstam. When you watch her swing from behind, it just looks so pretty.
DK: For your sake, I hope you don’t play for money.
DK: Since you are also the captain of the Brandeis University Hockey Team, would you rather win a slap-shot contest or a long drive contest?
JL: I don’t have the fastest shot or the longest drive, but there’s something about winning a long drive contest.
DK: Chicks dig the long ball.
DK: Best pickup line involving golf?
JL: 1. Do you want to show me your grip?
2. Do you like guys who can hit it long and straight?
DK: I have no response.
DK: Better swing doctor: legendary golf instructor Butch Harmon or Brandeis Golf Coach Bill Shipman?
After long contemplation…
JL: A blind Butch Harmon.
DK: I bet Butch Harmon can’t coach fencing.
DK: What professional golfer would you like to be?
JL: Tiger Woods because of Elin Nordegren, even though Amy Mickelson isn’t a distant second.
DK: Touche.
