PLAYER’S RESPONSIBILITIES

Your choice to be involved with this softball program means that you will be asked to make sacrifices. Being part of a team is a privilege, not a right, and with that comes responsibilities. Below are some expectations that the coaches expect you to understand and agree to.

Attendance

All practices are mandatory, unless otherwise noted. It is vital that you attend practices even if injured. If you are sick from school, it is understood that you will not be at practice. However, I expect you to contact me (or your jv/freshman coach) at school as soon as possible to let me know: (email). Coaches will judge each instance on an individual basis; nonetheless there are some general guidelines to consider.

Missing a practice for unexcused reasons will result in reduced playing time in the next game. Missing a game for unexcused reasons (excluding personal or family illness, school-related trips, religious holiday, or a serious medical appointment) will result in the player’s suspension for one game. After returning, the player will also have to earn her spot back. In the event that you sign in late to school, understand that you must be signed in before 3rd period in order to be eligible to participate in that day’s practice or game. Along the same line, a player may not be eligible to participate if she signs out of school (and doesn’t sign back in) during the day.

It is your responsibility to schedule appointments and college visits around our game and practice schedule. You are receiving a tentative calendar with this sheet to help you plan ahead. It is also your responsibility to regularly check the schedule at to keep track of scrimmages, games, and any changes in dates or times.

All players are EXPECTED TO ATTEND ALL PRACTICES AND GAMES DURING SPRING BREAK, April 3-10. Please make an appointment to speak to Coach Williams if you have questions or concerns.

Behavior

It is expected that you will behave appropriately at all times. Poor sportsmanship exhibited on the field or toward other players, officials, or spectators will not be tolerated. Profanity is unacceptable at any time. We come with class, we play with class, and we leave with class.

Your behavior in school and overall is expected to be better than that of the student body on average. As being part of a team, you not only represent yourself, but also your team and your school in all that you do.

We coaches also recognize that being involved in athletics puts more expectations on you. For this reason, it is important that you do your best to be in school on time every day, to stay organized regarding your assignments, and to stay on top of your studies. Do your best to make arrangements to get extra-help or take make-up tests or quizzes before school. Should you have any trouble in any of your classes, please talk to the coaches so we may assist in any way possible.

Any severe behavior misconduct will be dealt with following the guidelines of the Tiger-Q.

Loyalty

This team and its success depend on you and your commitment. I am asking that for the three months of our season you are dedicated to this team, putting only your family, school, and religious obligations ahead of softball. Your team should be an extended family, and with that comes responsibility. Should you have any problems, first talk to that person directly or to your captains (who are the voice between the team and the coaches), and then talk to the coaches if the situation is still not resolved. As we are a family, we want that things discussed amongst the team to stay within the team.

Please sign below that you have read the above material and agree to abide by what is outlined above. Certainly the above does not cover all situations that arise; however, it does set some guidelines.

***You must be READY TO GO OUTSIDE to play EVERY DAY. If the weather allows us to go outside, PRACTICE WILL BE DIRECTLY AFTER SCHOOL (3:15) EVERY DAY. Athletes must check the board by the athletic office, outside of room 116, and their e-mail periodically during the day for changes. We will only use the times on the “Early/Late” schedule when both baseball and softball are stuck indoors and have to share the gymnasiums.

Friday, March 6is the first day of practice.

We have the late practice slot this first day. Please meet in the lobby (by the principal’s office) at 5:15 and bring this signed contract and your completed pre-season questionnaire. Practice will be indoors in both gyms from 5:30 to 7:30. You will not be eligible to practice until you bring all of these forms and you have been approved to play by the HS athletic trainer and athletic office.

Please bring your glove and batting equipment and wear sneakers to the first practice.

All physical forms are due to the athletic office before February break!
