Part 1: JOB PROFILE

Job Title: Education Coordinator

Main Purpose of Job

  • Provide direct support to the International Education Managers to achieve the goals of the Education team, including working with external partners and members of the public.
  • Coordinate the administration of the Education team, including work on First Concepts in Animal Welfare (FCAW), Advanced Concepts in Animal Welfare (ACAW) and other existing projects.
  • Contribute knowledge, skills and experiences of professional education processes to WSPA animal welfare education programmes internationally.
  • Liaise and collaborate with UK and foreign educators and other professionals on behalf of WSPA.

Position in Organisation

  • Member of the Education team led by Head of Education - which sits within the wider External Affairs, Research and Learning (EARL) department of WSPA.
  • Reports to the International Education Manager (FCAW).

Scope of Job:

  • Coordinate team liaison and regular reporting mechanisms, and update team movement calendar.
  • Communicate education information internally and externally, particularly to WSPA’s offices overseas. Deal with enquiries from external animal welfare organisations and the general public.
  • Learn to a proficient level and utilise Tridion website content management software to maintain education sections of Animal Mosaic website. Troubleshoot with support from external consultants and develop innovative approaches to boost the site and its usage.
  • Liaise closely with the Policy & External Relations team in the development and management of the WSPA network.
  • Seek out, acquire, assess and describe existing humane education/animal welfare education materials and place on Animal Mosaic website. Be able to feed into resource development process.
  • Organise, tailor content and present at conferences, seminars, workshops, training programmes and other learning experiences in the UK and abroad, as agreed and directed by the International Education Manager/s.
  • Assist with production of education materials on animal welfare topics for delivery to overseas educational institutions and other global audiences including school children and network members; refine and adapt to specific educational groups on a case-by-case basis.

Limits of Authority

  • Deputise for the International Education Manager/s when necessary.
  • Within agreed limits represent WSPA in external meetings both in the UK and internationally.

  • Minimum: First degree in relevant subject (preferably zoology, biology, animal management or environmental science, or education)

  • Knowledge and understanding about education methodology a plus
  • Interest and competence in database or website design and management
  • Teaching qualification

  • Experience working with colleagues, consultants and other partners from other cultures

  • Working for a charity, NGO, voluntary sector
  • Working with young people or adults in a development and educational arena

Part 2: DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Title: Education Coordinator

Immediate Line Manager: International Education Manager (FCAW)

  • Management of day-to-day Education Unit affairs
  • Assist in implementation of Education team strategy
  • Assist International Education Managers with duties as required
  • Communicate education information internally and externally, particularly to WSPA’s offices overseas. Deal with enquiries from animal welfare organisations and the general public.
  • Communicate with members of the public and with other animal welfare organisations on education issues. Maintain a database of contacts
  • Liaise with global WSPA Education Managers regarding progress of the animal welfare education programme in their regions
  • Gather data from regional team members regarding updates and achievements; develop and disseminate internal e-newsletter for WSPA staff
  • Learn to a proficient level and utilise Tridion content management software to maintain education sections of Animal Mosaic website. Troubleshoot with support from external consultant and develop innovative approaches to boost the site and its usage.
  • In collaboration with International Education Manager/s, develop and maintain content for Animal Mosaic website
  • Carry out tracking and on-going assessment of Animal Mosaic website; develop innovative methods to build usage globally
  • Maintain updated information about global news and events as they pertain to website users across three regional sites
  • Coordinate team liaison and regular reporting mechanisms, and update team movement calendar
  • Maintain contact with regional teammates and update movement calendar to assist with planning team meetings
  • Organise and host team meetings and teleconferences and carry out minuting
  • Maintain correspondence with team members as necessary to ensure up-to-date reporting of activities, achievements and updates
  • Seek out, acquire, assess and describe existing humane education/animal welfare education materials and place on Animal Mosaic website, and assist with developing new education materials when required
  • Contact suppliers of humane education and animal welfare education materials to acquire their resources to be described in the database
  • View/assess and describe contents of existing high education quality materials on Animal Mosaic database, utilising knowledge of WSPA policy and animal welfare to conduct quality assurance
  • Maintain database information for accuracy
  • Send out WSPA education resources to and upon request from target audiences
  • Assist with production of education materials on animal welfare topics for delivery to overseas educational institutions and other global audiences including school children and other institutions
  • Help to assess the necessity of creating new educational resource material produced by the WSPA programmes teams in all offices
  • Become familiar with resources produced by other organisations and individuals in order to determine gaps in the topics available and where reproduction can be beneficial
  • Copy-edit and proof-read the resources where appropriate to ensure consistent standards
  • Identify and resolve the necessity for updating or modifying such material
  • Organise, tailor content and present at conferences, seminars, workshops, training programmes and other learning experiences in the UK and abroad, as agreed and directed by the International Education Manager (FCAW)
  • Participate in WSPA workshops and conferences which aim to harmonise education strategies and share experiences with colleagues
  • Seek out and identify possible conferences for Education team to attend and/or present at
  • Assist with the coordination of content and structure of education conferences and workshops as well as external meetings when appropriate
