This year we are looking to further develop:
Ensuring that our children are able to write equally as well in all genres of writing and improving the quality and quantity of purposeful talk in school.
We will be:
  • Planning for extended writing opportunities in all subjects
  • Teaching children about the specific structures of different genres of writing, e.g. letter writing, instructional writing and persuasive writing.
  • Introducing more drama in to the curriculum and re launching philosophy for children.
  • Employing and training a member of staff to deliver a ‘Talk Boost’ intervention
  • Extending the ‘Scrap Shed’ out door lunchtime resources to the Upper Key Stage Two playground.

You can help your child/ren by:
  • Encourage your child/ren to talk in full sentences and use the correct technical vocabulary and tenses – don’t allow them to get away with “ Put that on there” and using pointing when they could be saying “Attach the box to the top of the cardboard on the left hand side using the sticky tape”. Children changing the way that they use day to day language will make the biggest difference to their writing.
  • Use the word “Why” more frequently in conversation with your childso that they have to use more language.
  • Encourage your child to look at and read different types of writing at home, e.g. bills, letters, newspapers and talk about how the structure of the writing is different.
  • Support your children’s learning at home

We are looking at:
Refining the curriculum plans written last year to ensure that we have good progression in all subjects and that our curriculum has the WOW factor for our children.
We will be
  • Introducing more visits and visitors to increase the range of experiences that our children have and supporting this with the school budget to lessen the impact on parent’s pockets.
  • Making better use of outdoor learning around our school environment.
  • Undertaking staff training in subjects other than English and maths to look at skills progression.

You can help your child/ren by:
  • Having a look on the learning platform and website and talking about your child/ren’s learning.
  • Reading the newsletters/letters so you know what your child/ren have experienced that week and what we are planning for them.
  • Letting school know if you have anything that you can contribute or support with in school.

We are looking at:
To successfully introduce ‘Assessment without Levels’
We will be
  • Undertaking staff training across the year.
  • Checking that our judgements about basic, advanced and deep learning are the same as other schools in our Trust.
  • Providing information for parents as we will not be using level information any longer.
  • Reviewing our school reports and parent evening information so that information continues to help you to support you children at home.

You can help your child/ren by:
  • Read information that is sent home to support your understanding of the changes.
  • Check out information that will be provided on the website.
  • Ask for information if you are not sure, we are always happy to help.
