Planning for Baby Project
The objective for this project: You’re calculating the costs of having a baby.
Assignment: Compile a baby book of pictures, descriptions, and costs of the services and supplies considered necessary and desirable when preparing for a baby.
Directions: For each category below, list and illustrate the specific items or services needed, the amount needed, the cost of each, and where to purchase or find each. Total the amount for each category.
1. Medical care- Pre-and Post-natal doctor visits, hospitalization for mother and child, pediatrician visit in hospital and the first check-up. (Available in class-just need to copy down).
2. Maternity wear- 5-7 outfits for work clothing, 3-4 outfits for casual wear, 2 outfits for dressy wear, 7 pairs of underwear (maternity bras & panties), 3 pairs of shoes for a pregnant woman.
3. Nursery Furnishings- crib, mattress, changing table, bedding, bumper pads, decorations and mobile.
4. Equipment- car seat, stroller, swing, & high chair.
5. Layette- one month’s worth of diapers (350) OR 4 dozen cloth diapers, 6 undershirts, 6 sleepers, 4 onsies, 7 bibs, 2 caps, 7 socks, 2-3 blankets, 4 fitted crib sheets, & waterproof mattress cover.
6. Bath items- bathtub for infant, 2-4 washcloths, 2-4 bath towels, soaps, lotions, shampoos, oils, ointments, comb & brush set.
7. Feeding items- 4 cans of formula, 8-8oz. nursing bottles, 4-4oz. bottles, baby plate and silverware.
8. Child care- full time daycare cost for a six-week old baby for one month. Please include address, phone number, & hours of operation.
Booklet Format
· Title page with your name, title of the project and a picture(s).
· Table of contents with page numbers on the right-hand side.
· Each category above on separate pages
· Each category in the correct order
· Neatness and Creativity-work must be typed or in ink, on unlined paper. All pictures need to be cut and pasted neatly.
· Financial tally sheet with each category listed and grand total stated.
