PLANET PROJECT (extra credit): due by Tuesday 2/14/17

Make a model of the planet assigned to you by random drawing. You are required to make a 2-dimensional model representation of your planet on a large poster board, which should also include the following facts. You have the option to make a 3-dimentional model of your planet and how it fits into the solar system to receive extra points on the project score. Three-dimensional models should be in color and represent the accurate size and be labeled. Project will count as either an additional test grade (up to 110%), or as additional points on an existing test grade (up to 12 points) (depending on your score, and what will help your grade).

Here are the facts your planet poster must include:

1. Name of your planet

2. Order of this planet from the sun (first, second, etc.)

3 Average distance from the sun in miles, kilometers, AND astronomical units

4. Period of rotation (length of day) * Tell anything unique about rotation.

5. Period of revolution (length of year) * Tell anything unique about revolution.

6. Temperature range, high and low in Fahrenheit AND Celsius

7. Diameter in miles and kilometers. Compare the diameter of your planet with that of Earth.

8. Compare the gravity of your planet with Earth's gravity. If an object weighed 100 pounds on Earth, how much would it weigh on your planet?

9. Describe the atmosphere (if any) on your planet. List the gases present and their percentages. Compare this to the Earth’s atmosphere.

10. How many moons does your planet have? Describe any unique features found on your planet's moons. Are any of the moons similar to Earth’s moon? What are the names of some of your planet's moons? (If your planet has more than five moons, just name five.)

11. What does your planet look like? Describe its surface features, such as volcanoes, craters or canyons. Does your planet have rings? Describe the rings. Compare the planet’s surface features to those on Earth.

12. Based on what you have learned, do you think life could exist on your planet? Think about what conditions a living organism would have to adapt to in order to survive on your planet when answering your question. Remember, life doesn't necessarily mean life as we know it on Earth!

13. Include a required drawing or picture of your planet (2 dimentional). Must show relative size and relative distance from the sun and/or earth.

14. OPTIONAL- make a 3-D model of your planetshowing its size and how it fits into the solar system. (In addition to the poster with facts. Should be accurate size and color. + 12EXTRA POINTS).

15. Cite all references for information and pictures. Can use EasyBib.com.
