Catalog Description: Fundamental techniques using the unique qualities of the lithographic process in creative image making. Students will work primarily in black and white, to produce single prints and editions. Students are introduced to the history of lithography as a fine art discipline. Prerequisites: PRNT 174L and DRPT 118L.

Prerequisite: DRPT 118L and PRNT 174L Corequisite:Offered: Occasionally

1. Creation of an aesthetically successful image on the lithographic plate using lithographic crayons and washes

2. Fundamentals and unique aesthetic qualities of lithographic printing

3. Historic overview of lithography as a fine arts discipline

4. Introduction to inter-media potential of plate lithography

Learning Outcomes:

At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1. Create an aesthetically resolved, content based image on a lithographic plate using a variety of lithographic materials and techniques

2. Use a manual lithographic press to create a black and white print, which has been processed, rolled up, and printed correctly.

3. Create an edition of 10 or more prints of consistent quality (processed, rolled up, and printed with correct pressure, registration, and inking).

4. Explain the historic place of lithography as a fine arts discipline

5. Explore inter-media potential of lithography

Evaluation:

Evaluation will be based on the following criteria:

1.Individual and group critique of printed images and creative approach to image making.
