Chuck Finder/Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: He was paid $440,000 last season, the first of a two-year contract. His new deal included a signingbonus, therefore, that amount along with half of the $125,000 signingbonus he received in May 2000 will count toward this season's salary cap—inaddition to his $725,000 salary.
Chuck Finder, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: it's a $3.3 million deal that could grow because of playing time and playoff bonuses that escalate from $300,000 to $650,000 each of the three years. There was no change in the terms of the two-year deal he signed as a free agent from Carolina in May 2000, so Alexander will make $725,000 this season, then is scheduled to earn $725,000 in 2002, $750,000 in 2003 and $950,000 in 2004.He received a $850,000 signing bonus, of which a fourth will count against the Steelers' salary cap along with half the $125,000 signing bonus he got a year and a half ago. That means Alexander carries a cap figure of $1 million entering this season.

Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: The rest of their rookies, drafted from the fifth through seventh rounds, have all signed three-year contracts for annual salaries of $175,000, $250,000 and $325,000… The picks and their signing bonuses: … Kris Brown (7th) $24,000.
Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: The signing bonus and the first-year salary cap of slightly more than $1 million for Brown would be difficult for the Steelers to handle, especially for a player who was tendered a one-year salary of $563,000 at the end of February.

Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Burress finally reported to training camp at Latrobe yesterday and signed an intricate, five-year, $8.667 million contract that is the most creative rookie deal ever constructed by the Steelers. It includes a $6.4 million signing bonus and enough incentives to earn Burress, a 6-foot-6 wide receiver, $14.4 million over the life of the contract… The contract is worth $7.767 million in a straight-up deal because the initial signing bonus is worth $5.5 million. But Burress will receive a deferred signing bonus of $900,000, payable March 1, 2001, bringing the amount of the contract to $8.667 million… Burress will have annual salaries of $422,000 in 2000, $303,000 in 2001, $408,000 in 2002, $514,000 in 2003 and $620,000. If he is reasonably productive in his rookie season, Burress could earn another $1,031,250 in incentives. He also has annual incentives of $1.2 million, $1.5 million and $2 million after the second year of his contract.
