Part-II.) Special Note:
We will be preparing for the audit for the last fiscal year. This will begin in March. The officers are beginning their mandated classes for state certified Fire Officer. I have scheduled and classes will be complete in April. I have mandated all Captains to have their state certification no later than April 2016 with a minimum of half complete no later than April 2015.
I spoke with Supervisor Veerkamp, he assured me that the letter I submitted in October was sufficient for us to receive the second round of patch money of $75,000. I will be following this closely. I will be issuing an administrative memo as it relates to payroll prep, this will be sufficient until an official policy is written. I have received language from our auditor on this matter.
Crews met with the Grizzly Flat Fire Safe Counsel in regards to the Fire they had on Cosumnes Mine Rd. last summer.
Part-III.) Personnel:
We are currently short three Reserve Firefighters, we are taking applications currently. We have not had to close station 31 due to short staffing as of yet. I may visit overtime from paid staff to keep it open in extreme circumstances. All shifts are now staffed with Paramedics Full-Time as I have moved to A-Shift and Captain Lemos has moved to B-Shift. We are looking into Federal Funding for the possibility of staffing a Pioneer Fire District Hand Crew for fuels reduction and fire protection. Currently, Lake Valley Fire in South Lake Tahoe has a crew that is paid from state and federal funds. This is a large project and subject to board approval if funds can be secured. More to follow on this matter.
I have met with Chief Hardy and he is working on setting up another meeting as it relates to consolidation discussions. I will be forwarding dates to the board as I get them.
Part-IV.) Buildings & Grounds:
The new HVAC system is just about complete at station 31. The counters for station 38 will be installed this month and should complete the final phase of the barracks remodel. We are still having to truck water to station 31, the issue with the well is ongoing and hope to have it resolved soon.
Part-V.) Fire Apparatus:
Annual services are ongoing as of this report. I was informed by El Dorado Hills Fire that they will not have surplus vehicles. I will be putting some money into the old Chiefs Vehicle and begin driving that instead of purchasing another. The old Utility 35 will not be sold and we will be using that as Utility 38. The duty coverage will be ran out of the current Utility 38 after the service on it is complete.
Part-VI.) El Dorado County Fire Chief’s Association & County JPA:
The Preliminary JPA budget will be submitted next month for board approval. I am told it will be a balanced budget, we will see. The annual California Fire Assistance Agreement is due. We are working on our rates currently.
Part-VII.) Miscellaneous:
1. I attempted to meet with representatives at Cal-Pers, our representative was not in when I went there. I will continue to pursue this issue in person.
2. Discussions with El Dorado County Fire have resumed and we are waiting to hear from El Dorado County Fire on a meeting date. (No Update)
3. There will be a tabletop exercise in Grizzly Flats in April, more info to follow. We are working with the Grizzly Flat Fire Safe Counsel on this.
