  • David Andrew introduced himself and asked the parents, staff and students in attendance to introduce themselves.

STUDENT REP REPORT

  • A list of Student Council sponsored events (past and present) was distributed and reviewed.

BOARD SURVEY

  • D. Andrew discussed the Board Survey and asked members to take the time to complete the survey on-line.

FRASER REPORT

  • L. Balaishis reviewed the results of the Fraser Report.
  • Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School was ranked 5th in the province.
  • L. Balaishis congratulated the students, parents and faculty.

MEETING DATES FOR 2010-2011

  • Dates for the 2010-2011 school year were discussed.
  • November 17 will be changed to November 24 and April 20 will be changed to April 13 to accommodate significant faith days.
  • A guest speaker has been booked for September 22.
  • October 20 will be the election evening.
  • D. Andrew asked members to forward ideas for other guest speakers.
  • K. Mark suggested a workshop on “Intra-culturalism”.
  • L. Balaishis suggested a Digital Literacy presentation.
  • G. Korenteng-Asante suggested that we need to encourage more students to participate in exchange programs. D. Andrew suggested the council host an information evening and invite all French Immersion parents.

STAKEHOLDERS REPORTS

Administration

Linda Balaishis

  • Four Trudeau students participating in the 3 month exchange program to France have returned.
  • The French Department will be participating in a one week exchange with a school from Brest, France. Fifteen students will be participating (Oct. 16 – 25).
  • Ken Thurston, the new director, will be visiting the school for a Digital Literacy presentation.
  • The school has been awarded an Eco-Schools Gold Certification.

Joe Mancuso

  • The administration team is working on scheduling for the 2010-2011 school year.
  • Enrolment for the next school year has increased.

Staff – V. Garofalo

  • The Drama Department has completed their productions for this school year and will be presenting awards at the “Trobies” banquet.

Multicultural Committee

  • O. Singh and K. Mark are working on a project to lay down the foundation to facilitate the move from mono-culturalism to intra-culturalism

NEW BUSINESS

  • L. Balaishis thanked the School Council for their participation and efforts over the past school year. She congratulated them for their accomplishments.
  • L. Balaishis noted the new director’s direction for the Board included a focus on parent and trustee involvement.

Odesh Singh motioned to adjourn. Seconded byGeorge Korentang-Asante . Motion carried.
