Context

This is the first unit of Personal Studies that students will have done a Babington. It is a personal well-being unit where students reflect on their lives and identify positive experiences and things they can be proud about. It is designed to help them make the leap between primary and secondary education.

The concept of an e-portfolio will be introduced and the Pieces of Me output will form one chapter or section of this. Students will add to their e-portfolio as they progress through school and it will be an invaluable resource when they come to apply for colleges.

Prior Learning Needed for this Unit

Students will not require any previous learning.

Differentiated Learning Outcomes for LA, MA and HA within this Unit

Must

All student should have created an Edmodo account and made a basic record of some key events in their lives.

Should

Most students will have reflected on their achievements and things that are really important to them in different areas of life. They will have reflected on how to take the opportunities presented to them in their new school.

Could

Some students will have presented coherent and reflective accounts about different events and areas of their lives. They will have considered how to achieve even better.

Progression from this Unit

At the beginning of each term, students will have the opportunity to add to their e-portfolio and so build up a record of achievements throughout secondary school.

Home Learning Opportunities linked to this Unit

Students photograph key objects that illustrate their Pieces of Me choices. They will be encouraged to share their e-books with their families through Edmodo.

Resilience / -Persevering when learning new skills; focussing on own progress and project
Reciprocity / -ICT ‘experts’ to act as young leaders and support with skills
-Wow How Now (Peer Assessment) in learning sets
Literacy For Learning (LfL)
What are the LfL activities? / When will they be used in the scheme?
Writing a short evaluation about each topic
