Pi in the Sky is an exciting new secondary STEM project, developed by Young Engineers and Science Clubs Scotland, using Raspberry Pi to create a weather station. A free half day hands-on CPD training course is offered at which you will receive a free resource kit valued at over £200 which includes everything you need to:

  • Get a basic weather station up and running quickly, adding sensors to measure new types of data as time goes on.
  • Record lots of data.
  • Analyse the data, make predictions and hypotheses.

The project offers many opportunities to link with the curriculum, especially computing, science, engineering, maths and geography – curricular links are included in the manual. The course is best suited to teachers with a working knowledge of computing.

What’s in the kit:

2 Raspberry Pi Model B with 8GB SD Card, Keyboard, Mouse, USB Hub, WiFi Adaptor, HDMI Lead and DVI Adaptor, Power Supply and Cable, SD Card Reader, Flash Drive with Files, Power over Ethernet Kit and Cables, Slice of Pi/O Boards and Connector, Rain Gauge, Wind Vane, Anemometer, Humidity Sensor, Temperature/Pressure Sensor Board, Analogue to Digital Converter Board, Light Sensor Board, Light Dependent Resistor, Push Button Switches, coloured jumper wires, breadboard, resistors, red, yellow and green LEDs, instruction manual.

“I’d just like to thank you very much for arranging the excellent Pi in the Sky CPD event last week. The notes and delivery of the course were first class and have really helped me to understand exactly how to incorporate raspberry pi’s into our curriculum. I am certain that this course, together with the amazing kit you provided, will help us to teach Computing Science with a more hands-on, experimental approach and ultimately enable us to inspire our pupils to take up a career in software/computer engineering.” Allan Wallace, PT Computing, Belmont Academy
