Physical Geography Project Information

PROJECT GENERAL GUIDELINES

There are four (4) activities to complete for the class project. All are electronic power points of physical setting at different scales. The first two (1 & 2) will be due during the semester. The last two (3 & 4) will be due the final week of class. All class projects are available for other students and the general public to view from my web site.

ACTIVITIES (EACH ACTIVITY IS WORTH 50 POINTS)

Each Activity should be around 20-25 slides

-Topographic Map Interpretation

-Regional Scope

-State Scope

-Local Scope

The first activity is to learn how to interpret topographic map information as can be seen in Isanti County and include information from the chapters on climate, biomes and soils.

1. Isanti County Topographic Map (DUE WITH QUIZ 2)

-select one of the topographic maps in Isanti County (on Project Page web site)

-show/explain/demonstrate what map information can be seen on the page

-include air photos/maps/ diagrams to help show details

The physical setting portions are power points that should consider information from the appropriate chapters.

2. Regional: RESEARCH A PHYSIOGRAPHIC REGION (DUE WITH Q4)

-Use the physiographic region that dominates the state you selected for #3 below.

-Describe the major features associated with the region

-Use information from the text and apply that information to the region

3. State: RESEARCH A ROUTE ACROSS A STATE (DUE LAST WEEK)

(SELECT A ROUTE FROM THE ‘ROADSIDE GEOLOGY OF ………………..’)

-select one or more (if needed) routes to cross the state selected

-create a visual and interpretive power point of what could be seen along the route

4. Local: RESEARCH A TOWNSHIP AREA IN ISANTI OR AN ADJACENT COUNTY

(DUE THE LAST WEEK OF CLASS)

-Campus Area

or

-Around your house

-a general overview of the area

-site specific details from your research, class notes, text information…..

This project may be viewed by other students and the public. Be creative…be accurate. Some base maps are on the Project link.

Pictures (yours or other sources)

Sketches (yours or other sources)

Air Photos

Descriptions

References

Consider the appropriate chapter in the text……. can you include topics from each?

PRESENTATION (no talking)

-You will need to provide an electronic version

(electronic versions will be compiled and available to all)

-Electronic versions should be a power point

-Save and name with your last name

-Put the final project in the drop box

-Do not have it start automatically when opened.

-Other students will also evaluate your work

Save a draft on your school ‘H’ Drive

Test your electronic version before the day it is due

EACH ACTIVITY IS WORTH 50 POINTS

Any and all materials produced by students in this class may be made available for other students and the public to view
