Physical Education Update

Our volleyball teams continue their busy seasons. All three teams recently hosted a one day tournament in our MCS gyms. It was an exciting day of competitive volleyball. Congratulations to the Boys and Girls Varsity volleyball teams on their recent tournament play. The boys won the Tier 2 division of the Devon Middle School tournament. The weekend before, they placed third in the Sunbury West Tournament. The girls placed second in the Nashwaaksis Middle School tournament. The junior varsity girls continue to develop their volleyball skills, recently winning three games in league play. All three team are preparing for league playoffs to take place in early May.
MCS is excited to take part in the Heart and Stroke “Jump

Rope for Heart” program again this year. The students will be entertained by the Townsview Jump Rope team at a Kick off Presentation on Tuesday, May 15th. Additional

information regarding Jump Rope for Heart will be sent home following the presentation.

We Believe Day

On May 17th, a group of 52 middle school students and four staff will be attending “We Believe” in Saint John NB at Harbour Station. This will be an uplifting event for the leadership students that will be focusing on the importance of volunteering and giving back. Members of the We Act Club, as well as Student Council, will be representing MCS at this event.

Guidance Update

The monthly guidance newsletter for May can be found on the school website. The newsletter includes information on the upcoming guidance events - Canadian Mental Health Week (May 7-13) and International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (May 17). The guidance focus for May will continue to be centered on promoting kindness in order to create positive learning and working environment at MCS. I have added a few good online resources about this topic to the newsletter. Finally, it includes a reminder of how students and parents can access guidance support should they ever need it.

If you ever have any questions about the Comprehensive and Developmental Guidance Program at MCS, please feel free to contact the school guidance counsellor, Krista Webb-Scheers at 506-325-4351.

Touch A Truck

The MCS Home & School is organizing a TOUCH A TRUCK event on Saturday, May 26th at the Connell Park Raceway from 10-2pm. There will be lots of trucks and heavy equipment there for children to see and climb inside. There will also be some live demonstrations. There will be a canteen and BBQ onsite, as well as face painting and tattoo stations. Admission is by donation and all proceeds will go towards playground renovations. Please help us spread the word for this exciting event.

Principal’s Message

Happy May everyone! Here is to hoping that all the April rain will yield some May flowers very soon! I want to thank all the families who have registered for School Cash On-Line already and encourage those who haven't to visit and follow the easy steps of setting up your account. Our goal is to have all our families set up for on-line payments by the end of this month. If you experience some difficulty, just call the office at 325-4434 and we will help.

Our one-time-only Meduxnekeag T-shirts are going fast!! This t-shirt can only be purchased by registering on-line (as mentioned above) and it is only $10!!

I would like to remind families that ASD-W has changed the bussing policy as of a few years ago. Students are not able to get bus notes or permission to use a different bus at the end of the day. Each student has a primary route on file, as well as an emergency or alternate route on file. These are the only two destinations that students can travel to after school on the ASD-W buses. If you need to change your addresses on file, please call Mrs. Bustard at 325-4434.

Coming at the end of May, are Provincial Assessments for our Grades 2, 4 and 6 students. More information will be coming home soon as students prepare for these important end-of-year snap shots of learning. Looking forward to seeing you at the production of Shrek in a few weeks!
