What is this class?
You are signed up for a new class emphasizing both Language Arts and PHS Core concepts.
If you meet class requirements, you will earn 2 credits for your work this year.
What is PHS Core?
PHS stands for Public and Human Services, a pathway in Career Technical Education (CTE).
We will be reading and writing within the framework of the following careers: Tourism,
Social Work, Law, Culinary Arts, Public Safety, and Education
What do you expect from me?
I expect you to come to class willing to learn. Be on time, be prepared, and follow all class rules.
Materials You Will Need:
· Notebook / Journal: to be left in the classroom
· Binder: for completed work.
Create tab sections for: Warm Ups, Classwork, Writing, Assessments, and Vocabulary
· Writing Utensil: pen or pencil. Do not use red except for peer editing/grading.
*Recommended: Index Cards (for vocabulary word flash cards)
Class Rules:
*Rules keep our classroom safe and orderly so that we can LEARN. Breaking the rules is a CHOICE you make. If you break the rules, be prepared to accept the CONSEQUENCES.
· Follow Directions.

· Be in assigned seat and prepared to work when the tardy bell rings.

· Speak at appropriate times using appropriate language.

Classroom Procedures:
· If it is too noisy, I will raise my hand for quiet and count down from five. Failure to quiet down at this point will result in CONSEQUENCES. (see below)
· Only one person will be allowed to leave the room at a time. You will receive 10 Bathroom Coupons per quarter. USE THEM WISELY! You will not be allowed to leave the room if you have used all of your coupons. No Pass, No Pee! Unused coupons can be redeemed for points at the end of the quarter.
· You must have permission to use the computers in the classroom; you may not use them for games or social networking.
· Push in chairs and clean the area around you before leaving. Last class of the day will put chairs on tables and close windows. You must stay in the room until the bell rings.

*For swearing: We observe the 3 strikes rule. If a student swears 3 times in one class, he/she will receive a 15 minute cleaning detention during Wiki. Failure to report to an assigned detention will result in a referral.

Late work / Make-up work Policy:
· In-class work is due at the end of the class period. If you do not turn it in, you will receive a ZERO, which you will not be allowed to make up.Use your class time wisely!
· Homework is due at the beginning of class. Late classwork/homework will not be accepted. Major projects and papers will be accepted late, but will be deducted 10% of their value per day late.
· It is YOUR responsibility to ask for make-up work if you are absent. If your absence is unexcused, you will not be allowed to make up missing work.
