GUIDELINES FOR APPLICANT REFERENCE

______is applying to the American Occupational Therapy Foundation for a Dissertation Research Grant. To this end, the review panel requests your candid comments about his/her character and potential ability to contribute to the field of occupational therapy through research and other academic pursuits.

Please describe the candidate’s strengths as a beginning scholar:

  1. Her/his views on science and scholarly works, as demonstrated by the ability to go beyond what is required and explore new issues with a curiosity for learning;
  2. An interest in seeking mentors who will actively collaborate towards scholarly outcomes and what success she/he may have had in doing this, and
  3. Examples of her/his ingenuity, leadership and competence in the domains of research and/or higher education.

In addition, please describe the conditions under which you know the candidate. If you are writing as the Chair of his/her Dissertation Advisory Committee, please provide the following additional information: the title of the approved dissertation proposal, the date it was approved, and the approximate date when this research will be completed.
