Introduction

The annual HKJC Tuen Mun Public Riding SchoolOpen Day is aimednot only atraising public awareness of equestrian sport, but also at introducing to the community the Club’s endeavours to promote the sport and nurture equestrian athletes through its three public riding schools.

As well as enjoying equestrian competitions and riding demonstrations, visitors can make close contact with horses by joining guided tours of the stables or riding sessions. In view of the growing local interest in horse riding andequestrian sport, the number of people allocated to each tour has been further raised this year to allow more members of the public to participate.

Programme

Key elements of the Open Day include:

-Inter-School Equestrian Challenge 2011(Final)

Riders from local schools will compete in dressage and show jumping competitions.

-Parade by the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA)

Riding exercises help the disabled to build self-confidence and improve their concentration and self-discipline skills. Members of RDA will be on hand to give a demonstration at the Open Day.

-Dressage demonstration

Dressage, often described as horses performing ballet, is looked upon as a team sport of a horse and rider working together to perform a routine of beautifully choreographed movements. Trainee Riding Instructors from the Club’s Public Riding Schools will perform demonstrations of this important equestrian discipline.

-Horseback Fun Race

Instructors from TuenMunPublicRidingSchool and trainees from the Club's Apprentice Jockeys’ School will join a series of fun races and mounted games.

-Puissance Challenge (Jumping Competition)

Riders and horses are required to jump a course of “brick-wall” obstacles of different heights. A Puissance Challenge is a test of confidence and co-operation between rider and horse.

-Guided Tours

Four free guided tours are being organised for the Open Day. Participants will be led by experienced tour guides to visit the stables and feed room and watch horse care demonstrations by the farriers and grooms.

-Fun Riding

Participants aged between 6 and 15, weighing below 145 lbs and taller than 90 cm are eligible to enjoy pony riding sessions. The fee for each 3-minute ride is HK$30.

-Photoa with Shetland Ponies

Visitors who make a donation of HK$20 or more can pose for photos with the Club's Shetland ponies. All proceeds will go to the Riding for the Disabled Association.

Equestrian Fun Gallery, game booths andbouncing castle.

About the Hong Kong Jockey Club Riding Schools

The Club has long supported the development of equestrian sport in the city and operates three public riding schools located in LeiYueMunPark, Chai Wan and Pok Fu Lam on Hong KongIsland, and Tuen Mun in the NewTerritories. A fourth Club venue, Beas River Equestrian Centre at Sheung Shui, is for Club Members only. The schools are professionally managed by the Club's Equestrian Affairs Department and are recognised by the British Horse Society.

TuenMunPublicRidingSchool is the largest of the four riding schoolsand serves over 20,000 people each year,while Lei Yue Mun and Pok Fu Lam each year serve 17,000 and 15,000 people respectively.
