Committee Mission

To conduct the annual Wild Ones Photo Contest.

Executive Summary

We did not have a physical meeting. Our discourses were conducted online.

After a substantial discussion, we decided to go all digital with the entries and judging of the photo contest this year. Jamie Fuerst and Tim Lewis, with additional assistance from Peter Chen put together the digital entry forms that could be downloaded from the web and merged with the Excel Spreadsheets with entered data. However this form needs fine tuning to register seamlessly with the format of the spread-sheet that Tim put together earlier. There are a number of issues, although minor in nature, that have arisen during the entry submittal and processing in regard to contest rules . We will refine them as we proceed onto the next year.

The biggest change in the contest this year has been the number of entries. We had a total of 134 entries, compared 30 plus last year. The vigorous participation, no doubt, was a result of going digital. We hope the trend will continue and thus promote awareness of the Wild Ones’ mission. The quality of the entries too were of a high degree. In certain categories choosing the winners was a challenge due to the many high quality images.

The People’s Choice Award voting was also conducted online this year. Peter Chen’s and Jamie Fuerst’s assistance in making this happen was invaluable. I think it is a better way to go, considering the fact that far more voters can participate online than in the annual convention.

The judging was conducted by the well-known garden photographer from California, Saxon Holt, Saxon knew Lorrie Otto for many years and is a fan of hers.

My many thanks for all the help from Tim Lewis, Donna VanBuecken, Carol Andrews, Jamie Fuerst and Peter Chen.
