PHOENIX MASTERS SWIMMING CLUB

Newsletter – February 2004

Only 27 days left to Nationals in East London!

We have a team of 36 going down to SAMS Nationals Championships this year.

For those for whom this is their first Nationals and especially for those who have “been around the block” but whose memories are not what they used to be (not only you, Gary!) here is some info:

ENTRIES

-Individual – we have made copies of all your entries. I know that some of you wanted to make some changes, but unfortunately, entries are closed and the programme is with the printers. Obviously, you can always scratch an event if necessary.

-Relay – We are assuming that everyone will be available to swim in all relays. Please let me know if you are not. The relay teams will be forwarded to you shortly – remember that the age groups are determined by the total age of all 4 swimmers. Any valid moans, if done ever so gently and politely, will be considered! Actually, any alternative suggestions are welcome!

CLUB KIT (Contact Anne on 083-390 0023)

The club costumes will be ready by the end of next week.. The price is +-R160 for ladies and R80 for men (some of you have already paid that amount, but we changed the supplier and there might be a slight adjustment.

Club caps will also be available at R50 each.

Club T-shirts – white with black logo on front, are R30. We only have XL but you can always find someone to share it with maybe!

Club white fleecy long-sleeved tops – we have only medium left and they are only R60.

Black shorts complete our kit and you need to bring along your own.

It would be great if we could all have club kit – there are club photos taken by a professional at some time during the champs. (Jack, remember to bring your own shorts!)

You need to contact Anne on 083-390 0023 if you would like any of the above.

ACCOMMODATION

Those who have booked through the club and have not paid the remaining R300 please do ASAP. We are staying at the Windsor Cabanas Tel 043 7433433 from Wednesday to Saturday nights inclusive. The holiday apartments are not within walking distance of the Joan Harrison complex so you need to have transport to and from the pool. The flats are equipped for semi-catering but our rate includes breakfast.

There will be 5 people per apartment and the following is a suggestion of allocation. Please let me know if this does NOT suit you.

Apartment No. 1 – Don and Di, Dave and Genie and Heather Roche

Apartment No 2 – Marissa, Anne, Pat, Linda and Gloria

Apartment No 3 – Gary, Heather ME, Yvette, Lisyl and Alison

Apartment No 4 – Rachelle, Claudia, Jackie and Clare

Apartment No 5 – Phil, Gregg, Quirin, John and Andy

Apartment No 6 – Derek and Anita, Barry, Doug and Jack

PRE-NATIONALS GET TOGETHER

We will let you know date and venue very soon. Please try and make it as there are those of you we never see at galas and you need to at least recognise your relay team-mate!

OTHER NEWS

Midmar – Congratulations to all who swam and especially to Rachelle for 1st place in the 31 and over, Gregg for winning the 41 and over, Marissa for winning the 51 and over and Gloria for a 3rd place in the 61 and over. What about entering some teams in the non0company relay on the Saturday next year?

Galas – The Old Eds gala at Delville last Sunday (15th Feb) saw some really good times from Gregg, Alison and Rachelle. You guys and dolls who don’t swim in these galas really miss on the practice as well as the socialising. So, NB next gala is the Inter-Regional Gala on Saturday 6th at Delvill (Entry form attached).

Easterns relay Gala is on 28th Feb - KemptonPark2pm Start - be there early to make up teams

This is a wonderful opportunity to get in some relay, takeover practice for those going to East London.

There will be the usual food and drinks afterwards. It has always turned out to be a festive gala with the team spirit that goes with it

Cheers for now

Train Hard and
See you Soon
