Dear Forensic Moderators and Coaches:

The Phillipsburg High School Forensics Team cordially invites you to the Phillipsburg Fall Forensics Invitational on Saturday, October 29, 2011. We hope you can join us for an educational and enjoyable day of forensics competition.

We are offering all ten New Jersey speech events (humorous interpretation, dramatic interpretation, duo interpretation, prose reading, poetry reading, original oratory, extemporaneous speaking, declamation, impromptu, and improvisational acting), student congress, Varsity and Novice public forum (Novice PF is open to 9th or 10th graders in their first year of debate), and JV/Varsity and Novice Lincoln-Douglas debate (Novice LD is open to 9th or 10th graders in their first year of debate). Students may double enter in any of the speech events, but may not double enter if competing in student congress or debate (LD or PF). There will be three preliminary rounds and a final round in all events. Awards will be presented to the top six competitors in each event and the top three schools. Please feel free to contact us regarding any clarification of rules of procedure.

Registration: We hope to have all registrations by Wednesday, October 26, 2011. Please adhere to this deadline. Registration will be done online at www.tabroom.com. Click on the “New Jersey Forensic League” and register your team. Any school may register under the New Jersey Forensic League for this tournament. Adds and drops can be made without penalty on the website until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28. A nuisance charge of $10 will be made for any drops made after this time. Adds at registration will incur a $5 nuisance charge. Dropped judges will incur a $125 penalty. Registration will begin Saturday at 8:00 a.m. and continue until 8:45 a.m. We hope to begin Round 1 promptly at 9:30. Food will be available all day.

Fees: You must present payment in the form of cash, check, or purchase order on the day of the tournament. We will not bill your school for the amount due.

Although we realize that Phillipsburg is rather far for some schools, we ask that you make every effort to be here on time. In Lincoln-Douglas debate students will be debating the September/October resolution:

Resolved: Justice requires the recognition of animal rights.

In Public Forum students will be debating the October resolution:

Resolved:Private sector investment in human space exploration is preferable to public sector investment.

Congress

Please submit all Congress bills to by Friday, October 21. She will upload the bills to tabroom by Saturday, October 22nd.

Entry Deadline

Entry deadline will be Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 6 pm. Registration will be completed through www.tabroom.com. Click on “New Jersey Forensic League” and follow registration instructions. You may register a team here regardless if you are a member of the NJFL.

Judges

One judge per five speech contestants and/or every three debate slots or fraction thereof is required. Speech/Public Forum judges will be combined into one pool. Lincoln-Douglas judges will be kept separately. If you drop contestants on the day of the tournament, judges still must be provided for those dropped slots. Dropped judges will result in a $125.00 hired judge penalty fee. A very limited number of hired judges will be available. Please make every effort to bring your own judges and stress to all of them that they must remain for the entire tournament. All judges must be available to judge the final round of any event.

Hired judges may be commissioned for $85.00 per judge on a first come, first serve basis. Deadline for Judge Requests: Wednesday, October 26, 2011. If you have any extra judges, please call or email Laurie Schmid.

Awards

All six competitors advancing to the final round will receive trophies. Based upon final round results, the top three schools will receive awards.

From the East: Take I 78 West to Exit 3. Exit on to Route 22 West and continue into Phillipsburg. About 1/2 mile before the Delaware River bridge you will see the US Post Office in the area between the West and East bound lanes. Simultaneously you will see the football field on the right. Turn right on Hillcrest just after passing the football stadium. The school is up the hill on the right.
From the West and Pennsylvania: Take I 78 East to Exit 3. Make a left off the exit on to Route 22 West and continue into Phillipsburg. From Newark, NJ: Take I 78 West to Garden State Parkway/Clinton. Take Exit 3 and continue until you see the US Post Office in the area between the West and East bound lanes. From Trenton, NJ: Take NJ-33 W. Merge onto NJ-29 N via the ramp- on the left. Merge onto I-95 N via the exit on the left toward New York/Mercer Airport. Turn left onto Bear Tavern Road/CR-579. Continue to follow CR-579. Merge onto US-202 N/NJ-31 N toward Flemington. Enter next roundabout and take 2nd exit onto NJ-31 N. Merge onto I-78 W/US-22 W via the ramp on the left toward Phillipsburg. Take Exit 3 (Phillipsburg/Alpha) and continue on Rt 22 until you see the US Post Office in the area between the West and East bound lanes. Simultaneously you will see the football field on the right. Turn right on Hillcrest just after passing the football stadium. The school is up the hill on the right.
From Stroudsburg, PA: Take I-80 East. Turn right onto N Delaware Dr./PA-611. Turn left onto Main Street/PA-611. Continue to follow PA-611. Turn left onto Garden Street/PA-611. Merge onto US-22 E. Take the Main / Broad Street ramp toward Phillipsburg. Turn right onto US-22 Alt/Broad St. Continue to follow Broad Street. Turn right onto 3rd St. Merge onto US-22 W toward via Toll Bridge/22 West Easton. Take the ramp on the left after the post office and you should see the high school. Go up the hill and the high school is on the left.
