ACADEMIC and ADMINISTRATIVE APPOINTMENTS

California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA, Executive Vice Provost and Chief Planning Officer, 2002-present (Vice Provost for Institutional Planning, 1997-2001; Interim Associate Provost for Institutional Planning, 1996-97; Interim Associate Vice President for Academic Resources, 1995-96). Primary responsibilities associated with this evolving position include the following:

  • Coordination of the University’s strategic, academic and enrollment priorities with the campus master plan;
  • Engagement with the campus and broader community regarding institutional planning issues;
  • Long-range enrollment planning, including expansion of summer enrollment;
  • Annual enrollment management, including enrollment growth funding for the academic colleges;
  • Liaison with the facilities planning office regarding master plan implementation, capital budget, facility planning, and short-term space management;
  • Local media contact regarding planning and enrollment issues;
  • Leadership and management of the office of Institutional Planning and Analysis (which is responsible for institutional research and reporting);
  • Participation in senior leadership groups on campus, including the president’s executive staff, Council of Academic Deans, Deans’ Enrollment Planning Advisory Committee, Student Success Council and Campus Planning Committee;
  • Representation of Cal Poly at California State University Academic Council meetings at the request of the interim Provost;
  • Chair, Cal Poly Housing Corporation (auxiliary), involved in constructing housing for faculty and staff to aid in employee recruitment and retention (2001-present);
  • Member, Board of Directors of the Cal Poly Corporation (auxiliary), involved in general purpose support of the University, including bookstore, dining services, and grants management (2002-present).

  • Achievement of initial specialized accreditation for Master of City and Regional Planning degree and reaffirmation of accreditation for BSCRP degree;
  • Curriculum development, including approval of joint degree in Transportation Planning with the College of Engineering;
  • Academic personnel management – recruitment, retention, promotion and tenure for faculty;
  • Departmental budget management during state fiscal crisis requiring cutbacks – accomplished without having to reduce course offerings for students;
  • Participation in College of Architecture and Environmental Design leadership team, including coordination of college strategic planning.
