PGCE Secondary Education: Preparation for the Interview Process

The interview process for the PGCE Secondary Education programme at Brunelwill involve several activities or tasks as follows:

  1. Documentation verification conducted by our Admissions office colleagues.
  1. An introduction to the course by Brunel staff.
  1. For English,Mathematics and Science applicants:
  • An individual mini lessonwhich should be planned to last no longer than five minutes to be presented to the interview group as if they are a group of KS4 pupils. You may use supporting materials as appropriate. If you have materials electronically, you need to bring these on a USB stick.

The title of the presentation for each subject is as follows:

  • Science with Biology:An Introduction to photosynthesis at KS4
  • Science with Physics:An Introduction to radioactivity at KS4
  • Science with Chemistry: An Introduction to rates of reaction at KS4
  • Science Physics with Mathematics: An Introduction to radioactivity at KS4
  • Mathematics: An Introduction to trigonometry atKS4
  • English: An Introduction to Shakespeare at KS4

For Physical Education applicants, the oral presentation will be assessed through the following practical teaching episode:

  • Prepare to teach a small group (approximately 4-6 applicants depending on numbers being interviewed on the day) of fellow applicants a game related activity of your choice. This will last for no more than approximately 7 minutes. You will be required to wear kit and be safe to take part, equipment will be provided and there is no requirement to provide a plan for this teaching episode.
  1. Written/subject knowledge based tasks of around an hour.
  1. Individual interviews with tutors from the University and Partnership schools. This will allow us to explore your experience, skills, knowledge and views about education and your subject area in more depth and to allow you to ask us any further questions – around 20 minutes.

Decisions about the outcomes of interviews will normally be communicated via the UCAS TT website or the Brunel University London Admissions Office.
