Quantitative and Qualitative Detail.

Background.
After a failed Sport England bid to develop a large multi-sport hub club at our Nanpantan site, the council implemented limited building refurbishment & we negotiated the inclusion of a number of facility improvements, including a tea room & new outdoor net.
Aims and Objectives.
We wished to capitalise on the improvements made to produce a comfortable and appealing pavilion facility, which had previously been below par & a hindrance to attracting new members. A covered seating area to provide shelter against the elements for the batting side (& spectators) was the priority, followed by an equipment storage shed and an extended patio area.
We first met with staff members from Brooksby College in November 2011 and agreed a 4 component project:
1. Canopy to link pavilion to Tea Room (& provide the covered seating area),
2. Equipment Shed (with concrete base),
3. Extended Patio Area,
4. Six-Seater Picnic Benches (x4)
After which plans were drawn up and whilst planning permission was sought for the canopy, work on the shed commenced.
Due to severe storm damage to their workshops, the project was delayed and Brooksby were unable to undertake the building of the patio. South Leicestershire College kindly stepped in to fulfil this part of the project.
Achievements to date.

Comments from the applicant / organisation.
We (LOCC) wish to thank all those involved in this project for the fantastic job done. The course leaders and coordinators mentioned above together with all the L1 & L2 Construction students at Brooksby, who persevered despite suffering major damage to their workshops, to complete the shed, canopy and picnic tables and to Duncan and his L1 Diploma (brickwork) students for stepping in to do the patio at the last minute and completing to time despite staffing shortages and an Ofsted inspection.
Thanks must also go to Keith at Hawes Plant Hire for the kind loan of the equipment needed.
You’ll see from the photos what a great improvement the works have made to our facilities, something we’d just not have been able to afford if we’d had to pay a contractor for the labour.
From the feedback we’ve received from the colleges, the students enjoyed the project and gained invaluable work experience – so a fantastic result all round!
Lastly I’d like to thank LCCC for supplying t20 tickets for all the Construction college workers and James Sykes, Angus Robson and Laura for supporting our “Thank You” BBQ.
