Job description: Project title: Credit scoring of poor people in south Karnataka, Tumkur district - India.

It was a research project, running by Harvard University’s professors. Under this research, we have setup an MFI called SFC Trust in Tumkur District. It was for piloting and designing of financial products. We have done a baseline survey (household listing) for selecting clients on randomization method. Then, divided them in two categories called as treatment and control group. It is basically to check the impact of microfinance. We have used a product called bulk repayment after harvesting of crop and a fixed date for non farmers with two interest rates.

My major responsibilities are:

  • Managing a survey and loan officer team that speaks a language foreign to you.
  • Execution of lending and monitoring operations of over one thousand households.
  • Setting up and managing an office.
  • Creating a strategy to execute with a partner organization
  • Conducting field research to understand on the ground realities

Understand the importance of rigorous testing. Product testing occurs in a controlled environment to ensure the validity of project findings and the scalability of our innovations if successful.

As a Credit Manager,I was responsible to implement the whole project, opening new branches, staff recruitment, randomize evaluation, monitoring credit operation (Individual lending) of8 branches in around 200 villages and 2500 clients, managing application and offer process to clients, handling repayments, liasoning and partnership with local bodies, Data cleaning and management in STATA, Quality check, etc.

Under this project, we have studied supply chain (Farm gate to Consumer) of five cash crops in two states Punjab and Gujarat: crops are Potato, Castor, Pysllium, Sunflower and Mint, according to the states. We have worked on cost of production and marketing chain of these crops (Pepsi, Subhiksha, McCain, Reliance fresh, and other processors)

(B).Project: Assisting in the Central government project of Agricultural Inputs and marketing in South Asia.

Primarily to assist the faculty in identifying and selecting problems for investigation, planning experiments, and in evaluating, interpreting, and publishing results. In addition to the actual performance of methods, we participated substantially in the selection, development, evaluation of methods, and writing ofresearcharticles for publication.
