PERSONAL PROFILE
BA (Hons) in Outdoor Leadership. Physical and Adventurous Training Expert with over 20 years’ experience whilst working for the British Army. A member of the Senior Management Team who has held a variety of National and International roles and has overseen the largest physical and recreational training centre within the British Army. Managed teams of 60+ employees, leads by example to ensure that optimum productivity is maintained throughout to achieve success. A strategic mind-set enables the business to develop innovative fact-based decisions to resolve people issues and challenges and to enhance both the physical and professional development of employees. Other areas of expertise include project management, evaluation and problem solving along with the ability to influence and develop professional relationships up to CEO level.
KEY ACHIEVEMENTS
· Delivered a construction and refurbishment programme to create a leisure facility in Wiltshire. Completed on time and within allocated budget and increased the profile of the area.
· 2006 World Champion for rope climbing. Participated in a 100 km ultra-marathon in 2005 and 100 mile canoe race.
· Led a team of 6 to complete an extreme sports challenge to climb the 1 mile ‘Big Wall’ in Yosemite, California. Managed the logistics, finance and training.
· Researched, planned and orchestrated multiple indoor climbing facilities that created generated circa. £26k income for the unit and increased community engagement.
· Organised, planned, executed and participated in charity fund raising events raising in excess of 50k.
· Replaced the manual process for scheduling all courses at the Army’s School sporting and physical training with an up to date software system reducing manpower and increasing efficiencies.

Sep 2012 to date Joint Service Adventurous Training Centre
· Provide policy for and implement 1st Party assurance processes including internal validation and continuous improvement file.
· Create and maintain activity management plans, annually review of Standard and Emergency Operating Procedures to include all associated Risk Assessments.
· Ensure full customer and employee safety through validation covering all areas of food, accommodation and training. Maintain a robust training and testing policy.
· Overseeing collective training of circa. 100+ to involve skiing, diving, climbing and high risk climbing.
· Apply for Diplomatic Clearance for overseas training via the embassy paper process.
· Maintain financial forecast for £750k. Supervise Inventory holders and low value purchases. Authorise purchases of up to £10k per month. Inventory holders have equipment totaling circa 300k.
· Ensure satisfactory arrangements are in place to promote economy, efficiency and effectiveness (value for money). Adopting a three quote process, nomination of energy wardens, chair continual improvement and quality assurance meetings. Share best practice with other outside agencies and national governing bodies.
Jun 2011 to Sep 2012 Officer Commanding Cadet Training Team
· Managed the organisation, planning and execution of the annual Camp for the Combined Cadet Force and Army Cadet Force for the whole of Scotland from Edinburgh North. The largest calendar event of the year and involved the training of over 1000 cadets simultaneously.
· Managed a team of 5 Training Safety Advisors who ensured that a safe ‘System to Training’ of all cadet training to include high risk activities; shooting and adventure training is carried out. Prevented claims against the Ministry of Defence (MOD). Welfare and discipline Officer for all staff.
· Information technology Officer for the unit in Arbroath and for 2 remote satellite stations located in Aberdeen and Inverness.
· Chairing various meetings; training strategy, finance, restoring efficiency, recruiting, health and safety, welfare, continuous improvement and quality assurance.
· Instigated multi activity weekend training for staff and cadets which resulted in an increase in recruitment and reduced wastage.
· Dealing with external auditors prior to commencing audit to outline and understand requirements.
May 2008 to May 2011 Physical and Recreational Centre Manager
· Programmed in excess of 1000’s of lessons and allocated 50 Instructors and employees.
· Managed payment for external instructors during the event of shortfall in expertise or availability.
· Ensured maintenance and cleaning was carried out effectively for buildings, roof, floors and fixtures. Leisure facilities, swimming pool maintenance, bikes and resistance machines. Athletic track, football and rugby grounds and climbing wall.
· Welfare, mentoring and discipline of circa. 40+ employees.
· Collective training and professional development officer. Planning, organising and executing training programmes to cover deficit in training, qualifications and competency skills and delivery.
Apr 2006 to Apr 2008 Operations Manager Afghanistan
· Allocated all resources within tight timeframes in order to support troops in combat. Including Jets, men, artillery, helicopters and Special Forces from other countries.
· Compiled accurate reports to demanding deadlines for MOD main Building and Number 10 in the event of a UK Death or serious incident.
· Managed complex multi-faceted assurance of high risk events. Monitored all events on the ground and within the air (Battle Space Management) and promptly reacted to incidents. This often meant managing multiple complex incidents circa 20+ that had significant consequences if Risk was not managed effectively.
Mar 2004 to Mar 2006 Physical Training Coordination Officer
· Co-ordinated a wide range of physical and recreational courses within the Army and implementing new initiatives to increase income generation.
· Successfully ensured that the Statement of Training Requirements for the Army’s sport is met and delivered within allocated budget and timeframes.
