DISCLOSURE AND BARRING SERVICE (DBS) CHECKING SECTION
Please go to the next page if this page is not relevant to the post for which you are applying
Job roles where this section must be completed will state in the advert that the post is subject to a Disclosure Barring Service check
ONLY TO BE COMPLETED BY APPLICANTS WHO WILL HAVE ACCESS TO CHILDREN AND / OR VULNERABLE ADULTS AND BY THOSE WHO MANAGE SUCH POSTS, AS DEFINED BY THE DBS
A check as to the existence and content of a criminal record may be requested from the DBS after a person has been selected for appointment to a post. Refusal to agree to a check being made could disqualify you from being considered for the position applied for. You are therefore asked to sign the statement below to confirm your agreement, if you are selected for the position, to a check being made on any criminal record applicable to you. Under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, you have the right not to disclose details of ‘spent’ convictions. However, for certain jobs, employers are allowed to ask about these offences. The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) (Amendment) Order 1986 sets our details of all jobs to which this applies and the job you have applied for is included in that list. The amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are 'protected' and are not subject to disclosure to employers, and cannot be taken into account. Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found on the Disclosure and Barring Service website; https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/disclosure-and-barring-service
"Do you have any convictions, cautions, reprimands or final warnings that are not "protected" as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013)?" YES / NO (Tick as appropriate )
Please give details (on a separate sheet) of any criminal convictions that you may have which are not "protected" as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013) (date, conviction, sentence etc.) The disclosure of a criminal record may not necessarily prevent you from being appointed. The nature of the offence, how long ago it took place, your age at the time and any other relevant factors may be considered when a decision is made. Please note that some convictions are never considered “spent” under the terms of the Act.
DISCLOSURE BARRING SERVICE(DBS)
The DBS is an executive agency of the Home Office, which helps employers check records which were previously held by the Police, the Department for Health and/or the Department for Education and Employment.
Enhanced Disclosure
This is for positions with greater contact with children or vulnerable adults, like nurses or care assistants, for example in the Legion. They may involve an extra level of checking including Protection of Children’s Act (POCA) and Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA) checks.
Permitting the Legion to check online the status of any existing DBS Clearances;
I am in receipt of a valid Enhanced DBS Clearance and have registered for the online service with the DBS at www.gov.uk/dbs-update-service Please note, you can register online when you apply for a DBS certificate, or within 14 days of DBS issuing one (you’ll need the certificate reference number). You can find out the progress of your DBS certificate through the DBS tracking service. Registration lasts for 1 year and costs £13 per year (payable by debit or credit card only).
I consent to the Royal British Legion carrying out other appropriate checks with the DBS if it so wishes and permit the Legion to undertake a Status check to see if any relevant information has been identified since my Certificate was last issued, where applicable
DBS Certificate No……………………………. Surname on Certificate…………………………………
Have you ever been subject to any sort of investigation by an employer under POCA or POVA regulations YES / NO (Tick as appropriate) If you have answered “yes” to this question please give full details on a separate sheet.

If you have answered “yes” to this question please give full details on a separate sheet.
Please note it is an offence if registered to apply for a position involving vulnerable clients.
I agree, if I am selected for this appointment, to checks being made with the Disclosure Barring Service for any record of convictions or cautions against me. I am aware that such information as appropriate for Enhanced Disclosures will be made available.
I CONFIRM THE INFORMATION GIVEN ABOVE IS CORRECT.
I also consent to the Royal British Legion carrying out other appropriate checks with the DBS if it so wishes.

Guidance Notes on making a job application Please read these notes thoroughly before completing your application. When recruiting our new employees we use a job description, a person specification and an application form.

• Job description

This tells you the main responsibilities of the job.

• Person specification.

This is an important document; it tells you what knowledge, experience and skills you need to do the job. These “criteria” are used to make appointments.

“Essential” criteria are those which you must have to carry out the responsibilities of the job. The person specification will show you which criteria will be used to shortlist candidates for interview.

“Desirable” criteria may also be included. These are extra requirements which may be considered if we receive a large number of applicants who meet our “essential” criteria.

• Application form.

If you want to apply for more than one position, please submit a separate application for each job. It is useful to make a rough draft first. Check through the draft to make sure that it is clear and that it covers all the criteria, before you complete the actual form. Please give all the information that you think we may need, as we cannot guess or assume anything about

you. Please tell us anything that you think is relevant to the job in terms of knowledge, experience and skills. You need to give enough information so that we can judge your suitability for the job.

• Referees.

Give the names and addresses of two referees, one of whom must be your current employer (or most recent if unemployed).

If you have not been employed before, give details of teachers/lecturers or others who know you well enough to comment on your ability to do the job. Relatives and friends must not be used.

• Qualifications and other relevant training.

Give details of your relevant qualifications and training courses. (You will be expected to produce proof of relevant qualifications if you are interviewed).

Look at the person specification to see which qualifications / training are essential. You may also have gained qualifications and attended training which, although not essential, are relevant to the job.

We are also interested in any relevant courses which did not lead to an examination or qualification and will take into account equivalent education / qualification gained overseas or as part of a vocational training scheme.
