Personal Career Plan

At this stage of your job search, most of you are heavily involved in “discovery”- the search for information about companies and typical positions with them, so you can formalize your targeting. The Personal Career Plan(PCP) is a “roadmap” for your search; it evolves as you gain new information and discovery. The initial version of the PCP is a resource to helping you and is a key milestone for moving forward with coaches and Career Consultants.Students who do not upload a draft of their PCP will not be able to schedule additional career advisor meetings.

The PCP is comprised of the following key elements:

Life Themes(Completed in PCAP or in CarMa)

Career Objective(Initial draft required, may be hazy, but it will evolve)

High-Level Strengths and Competencies(Important assessment you should be creating and then articulating as you need in networking etc.)

Target Preferences (Geographic focus and initial target list of companies)

Constraints Analysis (You may know one or two key ones; rest will evolve as targeting is refinedand understanding of the position requirements is understood.)

Detailed Competency Self-Assessment: The last two pages provide examples various competencies and will you allow to conduct a more detailed self-assessment. This information will be very helpful to both your SY Coach, Career Consultant and other support resources within Darden.

This link will take you to a recent PCP that is very well fleshed out. Many of you might have much less detail at this point, which is fine. We want to help you “evolve” this document as you continue the career management process.
