Job purpose
To provide comprehensive planning, operational delivery and coordination of all engagement between the Centre and external bodies, working especially closely with Office for National Statistics (ONS) and the between the Centre and external bodies, working especially closely with Office for National Statistics (ONS) and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and other members of the Administrative Data Research Network (ADRN).
ADRC-E’s engagement will be through multiple channels including internal and external communications, events, social media, web and Intranet.
Working closely with the Centre’s partners and funders, the post-holder will be responsible for planning, design, development, delivery and maintenance of all communication channels, taking the lead in co-ordinating the information provided, managing and developing on-line resources, as well as promoting the full range of the Centre’s internal and external activities. External communications will take account of branding principles established by ESRC for the ADRN as a whole but will also be coordinated with local University requirements.
In addition to acting as a resource to individual researchers, the post-holder will take the lead in coordinating and developing engagement between the Centre and a wide range of external bodies. These include government departments, NGOs, charitable bodies and academic organisations with interests related to the Centre, other ESRC investments, as well as non-academic organisations with which the Centre will work.
Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities / % Time /
1.  / In order to promote awareness of the Centre among potential users of the services and resources it provides, the post-holder will take the lead in developing, managing and replenishing the Centre’s marketing and promotional strategy and activities, including the development of branded promotional and information materials, editing newsletter and the writing and production of other articles to market the Centre, including videos and podcasts thus encouraging wide awareness of the Centre’s services; making occasional presentations about the Centre and demonstrating the Centre’s interactive research activity games at appropriate venues. / 20%
2.  / In order to meet the needs of its users and to cooperate effectively with partners, the post-holder will maintain oversight of the Centre’s engagement and communications with external bodies (either users or providers), including other ESRC initiatives; cooperate with the ESRC and ADRN members in their work; be aware of other nationwide data initiatives or events to make recommendations for the most appropriate format, structure and content of public engagement to best facilitate the use of communication channels for the dissemination of publicity for the Centre, including timing and refresh; act as a liaison person with some bodies; develop new forms of engagement; respond to incoming enquiries; undertake research into external perceptions and experiences of the services provided by the Centre. / 20%
3.  / The post-holder will oversee the provision of on-line resources by the Centre in order to address the needs of the ADRC community and partners. This is expected to include: working with academics, partners, ESRC and ADRN members to implement and develop a strategy for sustaining on-line resources; oversee development of the Centre’s website related to its research activities and cooperate with the ESRC, University and ADRC-E staff, including the Directors in more general aspects of the website’s development. / 10%
4.  / The post-holder will have primary responsibility in the Centre for all external communications, drafting, preparing and disseminating communication and publicity material using multiple channels including print, web and social media; production of newsletters, policy briefings and press releases; manage events such as public lectures, seminars, symposia and annual team awaydays / 20%
5.  / The post-holder will support the Directors for all reporting activities for the Centre, in particular to coordinate the preparation of the Centre’s annual report for ESRC and overseeing collection of financial and other data for reporting to ESRC about external engagement. / 15%
6.  / The post-holder will monitor social media platforms and bring to the attention of the Directors and Partners media activity in a timely and appropriate manner. / 5%
7.  / The post-holder will represent the ADRC-E at monthly ADRN communications and public engagement committee meetings and provide feedback where appropriate to ADRC-E colleagues. / 5%
8.  / Undertake other specific and/or related tasks and administrative roles and duties requested and assigned by the Directors, including line management of an Administrative Assistant if necessary. / 3%
9.  / Undertake training and personal development to help him/her carry out the above duties more effectively. / 2%

Internal and external relationships /
Using verbal, written and electronic communication:
·  Liaise with academics, Professional Services, external organisations and bodies to facilitate the tasks and functions, specified for the position, and with the general purpose of ensuring quality and effectiveness of the Centre.
·  Work in partnership with other ADRC Communications Teams and the ESRC Communications Team.
Special Requirements /
Flexible working will be required.
Will require occasional travel to London, Essex and other key stakeholder organisations within the UK

Qualifications, knowledge experience / Degree level or equivalent experience in an appropriate subject
Substantial relevant experience and success in similar work in administration at a high level in a complex environment and of similar tasks evidenced by successful achievements
Knowledge of University processes and regulations
Excellent IT skills with ability to learn new applications and work with databases, report generators, Microsoft Office suites and related software
Expert knowledge of the relevant IT systems for web design and maintenance
Expert knowledge of setting up and maintaining a range of social media accounts / Application/ Interview
Planning organising / Able to independently organise activities (schedules, diaries, attendances, meeting arrangement etc.) and operationalise processes according to strategic and management plans
Able to efficiently and systematically organise and store office data and use records appropriately
