Person Specification IMHA Manager

  1. Demonstrate the ability to lead and manage funds and contracts while able to support your own casework.
  1. An ability to provide visible and supportive leadership and to foster a positive work environment through empowering, enabling, motivating and developing others.
  1. Ability to provide high quality person centred Independent Mental Health Advocacy, including liaison and negotiating with or on behalf of clients to third parties and representing clients’ views in a non-confrontational manner.
  1. Ability to develop quality standards,monitor the quality of service delivery against agreed targets andperform case audits.
  1. Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, associated mental health legislation and the criminal justice system and ability to apply these appropriately.
  1. Good oral and written communication skills with an ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders, both within and outside the organisation.
  1. Knowledgeable about recruitment, staff training and staff motivation
  1. Ability to manage a team, including providing supervisions, appraisals and managingtraining and development.
  1. Ability to manage day-to-day operations and develop and implement effective and efficient systems
  1. Ability to follow Mind in Salford’s policies and procedures, assist in the development of these and ensure that your team adheres to them
  1. Knowledge of mental health services and the ability to advocate on any issue a client may face, including understanding the specific challenges faced bypeople detained in secure mental health services
  1. Ability to liaise and negotiate with or on behalf of clients to third parties and representing clients’ views in a non-confrontational manner.
  1. Able to engage with vulnerable adults and show respect and understanding, including ability to communicate with people who may be experiencing varying degrees of emotional or mental distress.
  1. Able to prioritise and organise own caseload and maintain up to date client records and work records including monitoring information.
  1. Able to use Microsoft Office and custom database packages.
  1. Ability to contribute to organisational & strategic development, working co-operatively and supportively with colleagues to achieve shared outcomes.
  1. Demonstrable knowledge and skills in client empowerment and participation.
  1. Willingness to constructively challenge the work of self and others to continually improve own and team performance.
  1. Understanding of the need for confidentiality and data protection

Qualifications & Experience

  1. At least 5 years’ experience as an advocate of which 2 years needs to be in an IMHA setting – essential
  1. Management experience – essential
  1. Relevant qualifications, particularly the IMHA qualification, would be an advantage–desirable

  1. Clean driving licence and ability to travel to various sites in the local area. - essential
  1. Undertake an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service criminal record check. - essential
  1. Two detailed professional references will be required and disclosure of any potential conflicts of interest. - essential
