Course Description Details for Semester 2

Quizzes: Of the 16 (13 Regular Quizzes + 3 Formula Quizzes) quizzes we take, up to your two lowest

scores will be dropped according to the following Textbook HW completion criteria.

Number of Textbook HW’s with scores of 8 or higher / Number of Dropped Quizzes
11-13 / 2
8-10 / 1

Extra Credit: There are two extra credit opportunities for Semester 2.

Participation in the IUPUI Math Contest will comprise this semester’s extra credit opportunity.

Each properly submitted problem will yield an extra point added to BOTH the Quiz and Unit

Exam categories. A student may submit up to 5 problems and 1 essay for 6 points in each

category. The Final Exam grade is unaffected by Extra Credit for Semester 2.

Information about this contest will be distributed around January 10. The deadline for

your submissions will beWednesday March 16.

Participating in the viewing of the movie Stand and Deliver in late April and completing the

accompanying packet will result in replacing your lowest quiz score with a 10. (This is prior

tothe potential dropping of your two lowest scores).

CML Exams: Meet 2 Scoring: 2 additional points are added to your actual score.

Meet 3Scoring: 1 additional point is added to your actual score.

Meet 4 Scoring: Straight up!

Semester Assignment Weighting: Note that the second semester has a slightly altered assignment weighting than

the first semester.

Cell Phone/Electronic Device Policy: Unfortunately student misuse of these items has been a HUGE problem this year. For that reason, I am implementing a ZERO tolerance policy on the use of these devices in the classroom. Under no circumstance are they to be used or even be out of your pocket/backpack/purse during class. Violating this policy will yield the following consequences:

First Offense: Student will forfeit all potential Extra Credit opportunities for the semester.

Second Offense: Student will lose 5 points from the next upcoming quiz + 1 After School Detention

Third Offense: Student will receive 0 points on the next upcoming quiz + 1 After School Detention

Fourth Offense: Student will be referred to the Office a face removal from the course with a W/F.
