People’s Takeaway-Delivery Driver
Role Summary
With supervision and direction from East Durham Trust management team to undertake general duties which would include delivery of food for distribution to East Durham residents in financial hardship.
About East Durham Trust
East Durham Trust is a registered charity based in Peterlee, serving the whole of the former District of Easington. The Trust operate a number of projects and interventions that support local residents in terms of financial and emotional wellbeing. This includes an emergency food parcel project, which sees an average of 60 food parcels distributed to local people who are in financial crisis.
In late 2017, the Trust ran a successful crowd fundraising campaign to extend this crisis intervention service to include the delivery of a hot takeaway meal to local people in need. This new service is the People’s Takeaway.
The People’s Takeaway is supported by generous donations from the public as well as funding from County Durham Housing Group and Comic Relief.
About the opportunity
The People’s Takeaway is a brand new and innovative project that will see 1000’s of hot meals delivered to the homes of East Durham residents who are suffering financial hardship. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a kitchen environment, and a good way to get involved with your local community.
Main duties will include:
- Arrive at Community House by approximately 3pm on Friday’s
- Load packed meals into car
- Check customer delivery lists against number of meals
- Deliver meals to customers on a set route
- After the meal delivery round, return to Community House
- Inform Co-ordinator if unable to deliver any meals or if there are any concerns regarding customers
- Participate in programme development, reviews and training
Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- A deliver driver requires a current “C” class driving licence
- A current enhanced DBS Certificate *This will be provided by East Durham Trust
- Volunteers to notify insurance agencies of use of vehicle for volunteer work purposes
- Own a car
- Has an outgoing and sociable personality
- Is customer focused
- Good communication skills
- Must be friendly, reliable, patient, non-judgemental and non-discriminating
Desirable:
- Interest in working in the local community
- The ability to work with direction and as part of a team
Full training will be given, including a Food Hygiene certificate where applicable.
What we would like you to do
- To ensure all Volunteers comply with current policies and procedures applicable to the role
- To undertake training and development applicable to the role
- To respect all information concerning Volunteers , employees and beneficiaries and be strictly confidential at all times
- To ensure all Health and Safety rules are adhered to at all times
- Attend meeting when arranged
- To help maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen and equipment
- To support the catering team where needed to ensure delivery of high quality foods to beneficiaries
- Keep kitchen area clean
When we need you to be available
The expected regular commitment for this role is Friday afternoons. 2:30pm-5:30pm.
We need a schedule of volunteers at least one week in advance.
We can offer regular slots on the rota or an on-call rota.
This may increase as the service develops.
All out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed including a mileage allowance of 45p per mile.
