PEO Learning and Wellbeing Coordinator

Expressions of interest are invited from employees interested in relieving in theposition of PEO Learning and Wellbeing Coordinator, Newcastle with the Educational Services team from 18 July 2016 to 26 January 2017.

The position provides leadership, management and coordination of services, programs and initiatives supporting learning and engagement for a diverse range of students, including Aboriginal students, students with disability and/or additional learning and support needs.

An expression of interest addressing the criteria, of no more than three pages in length should be submitted to Robyn O’Neill at by 4pm Friday 17 June 2016.

Statement of duties

  • Planning, coordinating and monitoring effective learning and engagement service provision, resource coordination and maximisation to support schools to meet the diverse learning and support needs of their students.
  • Managing and maintaining systems and procedures to facilitate the effective delivery of Learning and Engagement services.
  • Providing expert advice to build the capacity of principals to meet relevant legal and policy obligations relating to students with diverse and complex learning and engagement needs, including school attendance, child protection, disability and cultural identity.
  • Managing and leading projects and initiatives including interagency strategies to address the needs of students with complex learning and support needs, including those that relate to child protection, disability, health and wellbeing, behaviour and culture.
  • Leading and coordinating professional development and support for schools to enable responsive approaches to meet the learning and engagement needs of students from diverse backgrounds and to contribute to the development of inclusive school cultures and practices.
  • Providing expert advice and support to principals in the management and resolution of complex matters relating to Learning and Engagement policies and procedures.
  • Leading and maintaining effective mechanisms for high quality professional development, support and supervision for non-specialist and specialist staff in the Learning and Engagement team.
  • Supporting and coordinating the implementation of new technologies, and/or psychological test materials and assessment tools.
  • Preparing reports, briefings and ministerial correspondence and effective and efficient management of records and, where relevant, school counselling files.

Selection criteria

Teaching qualifications and successful teaching experience within the K-12 range.Significant experience in one or more of the following:

  • Specialist service delivery for children and young people with disability
  • Educational provision for Aboriginal students
  • Educational service delivery for students with wellbeing or counselling needs where current registration as a psychologist in NSW is required.

Demonstrated capacity for high level understanding of relevant legislation for supporting inclusive learning and engagement of the full range of students K-12.

Excellent written and oral communication skills and proven ability to lead, manage and develop a multidisciplinary team.

Excellent analytical skills and ability to provide high level advice on policy and operational issues relating to diverse student learning and engagement needs.

Proven ability to plan, implement, manage, monitor and evaluate educational programs, provisions and resources across a range of schools.

Demonstrated commitment to the values of public education.

Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal education and training policies.
