I hope everyone had an enjoyable seasonand that youwere able to take someonealoneon the line. I had the chance to do some trapping in Maine. I had some luck with beaver and got to see my first lynx while chopping a beaver out of the ice. I wish my wife could have taken a picture, but the lynx was camera shy. I was also fortunate to be invited to travel south to trap with some friends and am now preparing for that adventure and some more fun.
By now most districts have had their fur sales. Prices are still not what we would like to see but that is just the way the market is right now. I will say that if we want more competition amongst buyers at our sales we need more trappers to bring their fur to the local sales. If buyers know that there is an opportunity to purchase a lot of fur it will help to draw buyers to the sales. If everyone stays at home then buyers have no incentive to come buy fur. We can’t control the market but if we bring in the fur and entice buyers to come then at leastwe can have a competitive sale.
Hopefully everyone will support the State Banquet that is being hosted by District 12 on Saturday, April 7, 2018 in Glenmoore, PA. in April. And don’t forget to attend the 81st Annual State Trappers’ Rendezvous at the Port Royal Fairgrounds in Port Royal from June 7-9, 2018 hosted by District 8.
